BMW USB Interface

Dad's got the option "USB interface" in his LCI E61 (with Professional Nav / Media pack) with iDrive.

It's a USB port next to the Aux-in port under the phone tray in the centre armrest.

To plug his iPod into it he bought the iPod cable from BMW which plugs into both the USB & Aux-in (kind of like a Y cable) and now just keeps a iPod video in there all the time.

Most of the above posts are totally wrong. The 6FL USB interface does work with an iPod, but you need the correct interface cable from BMW, otherwise it won't work properly.

i just have a 16gb usb stick with a copy of my music on it. means i can leave it in the car, so much less hassle and also loads cheaper than the BMW lead!

Anyone got this?

If so, how do you use your iPod with it? The iPod plugs in and I can play stuff through it fine so it works but the navigation seems completely bizarre, a pile of jumbled up folders and nowhere can I find my playlists or anything.

Anyone had more luck?

Can't you just press the button on the wheel and say what you want to listen to?
