BMW windscreen, how much !

Try looking for a local firm to you and get a few quotes. I had my Mazda 6 car windscreen replaced recently and autoglass wanted £750 initially or £550 for cash.

I then called autowindscreens and got quoted £140 all in and later that day they went bust! I eventually got a local firm to do it for £240 all in and could not fault the service.

just got quoted £1150!!!! until they found my policy under the correct plate details I gave them

£65

phew!

AFAIK HUD screens just have a small reflective area in the glass, on cheaper solutions its just a little patch of dark clingfilm :p

It is possible to still claim for a broken windscreen under a comprehensive policy where windscreen cover is excluded.

You phone the insurers and claim for it as an accident. Your accident excess applies and NCB is prejudiced but it's a good emergency escape route.

:)

so I just claimed and spoke to the lady, apparently my protected NCB (max) isnt affected but it would prevent me gaining another years NCB at the end of this policy (if I was able to)

sounds harsh, is that standard merlin?

-You have windscreen cover yes Will?

I was under the impression that it has no effect on your NCB at all, I claimed for a broken passenger window and it had no effect.

Granted it wasn't a HUD screen, but windscreen cover is windscreen cover..

I had windscreen cover when mine cracked and it didn't affect the NCB at all - still got a year's NCB at the end. The screen was pretty bad though so I had to pay something like a £50 excess but that's not bad at all.

If you have cover for it, it should be covered fully. It's only a problem if you don't or have partial cover (i.e there's a load of hoops to jump through).

full cover, if it was a chip it doesnt count = £0

as its a huge crack its a replacement (1100 quid!) = £65

here is the section from their (swiftcover) T&C's

Any payment for replacement of glass under this section will not reduce your No Claims Discount, (though at your next renewal you will no longer be eligible for any increase in your No Claims Discount according to our declared scale)

not sure if thats the standard policy for most companies, nor do I fully understand what it means, but as I'm max NCB protected anyway its a moot point :p
