BMW X5

Why not, provided you can afford to buy it I don't really understand why 'in this climate' you shouldnt buy it if it suits your needs

People seem to think the economy cares about their pathetic lives and that they will be in some way effected in the slightest. It really annoys me when I see people running to the bank to withdraw their money in case they lose it all. Uneducated people need to learn a little I think.

values are dropping like stones like most bigger 4x4's. Great if you intend to keep it, however if you get bored or your situation changes and it becomes too expensive to run. You may have a job on your hands shifting it.

What about a 5 series estate? That may be cheaper to insure, but it lacks the 4wd... Try another mock quote for ****s and giggles. :)

Ive considered a 5 series estate which look mint as estates go but i need something the can drive over very uneven ground to my lakes, not off roading but theres no way i would take my 3 series over it would deffo bottom out.

;)

I have nothing against big 4x4s, except maybe in London. However I still believe everyone should be able to drive whatever the hell they want - however I just have to ask why go for a big X5 vs an estate? Surely a good BMW estate will be more practical and a little less ostentatious? I'm not wanting to turn this into an anti/hating thread please.

He's already explained, he goes fishing and needs to drive over uneven, muddy ground to get to various rivers. His current 3 Series Touring keeps bottoming out.

Fair dos, I speed read the thread and read the fishing part didn't read that bit. The x5 is suprisingly good off road too isn't it despite being an above average road car too no?

I'd imagine it depends on the tyres - cant see the low profile ones being much cop offoad?

Pedro show the side profile, its worse!

Wildcard suggestion - Subaru Legacy Outback Estate? Has more ground clearance than the BMW saloons, 4WD etc.

x5 for fishing you must be joking ? there no were near big enough

we have a vectra vxr estate, looked around a few motors and it was the only one big enough to take all the tackle needed for 2 of us to fish matchs, which is a lot of tackle

granted it was £16,295 , tyres are £227 a piece, but worth it, and tbh it hasnt bottom out yet and its been over some pretty rough terrain to get to lakes and even rougher to get to quad tracks towing a rather large trailer, which is may add it did it within a stride even tho fuel consumption is 25mpg max and 7mpg when towing a trailer with heavy quads on the back

but itll blast every other thing towing a trailer away

the cars we tried were merc estates, 5 series, 3 series , x5, and a jag offering

i am now eagerly awaiting the vauxhall bashing comments

Don't be ridiculous, it's easily big enough and quite ideally suited. My Dad used to do match fishing all the time - I went with him on numerous occasions and we never had an issue fitting kit in and we never had anything as big as an X5.

Your Dads car is rubbish but then if he pays £230 for a tyre I guess he isn't particularly savvy with his cash anyway.

I wonder when BMW will actually make a real 4x4 That isnt afriad of getting dirty.:p

That X6 looks like it could be good but it has the wrong wheels and is still probably a big Soft Mum wagon.
Does it even have 4x4 mode?
