BOG syndrome

I went from a Mondeo ST24 (ok, not exactly that performance orientated but still pretty nice) to a Mondeo 2.0 TDCi.

After a month or so of obsessing over MPG figures, i quickly grew bored of the black smoke, noisey engine and lack of performance.

Back to a more "fun" car now... Octavia vRS :)

I just stick to running the ST. Yeah I might only get 21-24mpg when commuting, but that's only 10 miles each way. I do 12K a year, that's absolutely no reason for me to get something boring.

I enjoy that even though I might be in a bit of traffic, i'm in a nice car with a bit of oomph for the A road closer to home :D

Exactly, 10 miles each way is a nice enough run out that you don't ever really have to worry about what you would be driving for that distance.

/grumbles about his 200 mile round trip to the office tomorrow

OP - get yourself another car. Keep it cheap, simple and basic. then keep your "nicer car for the weekend"

I did exactly that. Have a Lexus IS200 I was using to commute to and from work everyday. Was costing a fortune, and racking up the miles on what was once a low milage example. Now I have a Little Ka, which is cheap to insure, Tax and run in general (I get 52Mpg) tax is only £70 per 6 months. And I can sling my mountain bike in the back, pickup washing machines and put all the tools in the back - without the worry of the mess or cost of fuel lol

Cost wise? well I proabably save around £200-300 a year having the 2 cars all things considered. Plus my lexus only does 4-5k a years instead of 12/14k. Gotta be a win win mate!

Driving a Ka whilst a Lexus sits unused on the drive sounds like a fail fail not a win win.

Looking at it another way using your figures it would cost only just over 15 quid a month more to use the Lexus all the time. What a waste of time.

i actually cant think of anything worse than doing the bulk of my driving in a bog-awful studentwagon

I have a sports bike and a 2.0L MX5 Sport Tech. The MX5 I bougth at the end of January so it will be intresting to see how much the bike gets used this year...

Got to agree with the others, that seems totally ridiculous just to save 2/300 a year!

For starters it's an IS200 not a 355, cars are for driving man no point having a nice one then driving the Ka all the time.

Infact to be honest this thread is full of ridiculous ideas and people doing odd things with relatively normal cars.

IMHO the only reason to have two cars is if one of them is:

a) Some sort of sports car/convertible
b) Rare/exotic

Driving a small hatch so you can drive an IS200 or a Mondeo at the weekend? What? Just drive the nice car all the time.
