Bombarded with mediocrity

I'm stopping buying release day games TBH. I always get excited for new games from watching the 6 million trailers released beforehand, only to be disappointed on release day.
Borderlands TPS and GTAV have been the only 2 games I've paid full price for and been satisfied with in a few years.
15 years later and I'm still enjoying the old Megadrive games like James Pond and Altered Beast, I doubt there is a single game from this generation that I'll still be playing in 15 years.

Pc for me just means Arma and DCS, PC gaming is dead. PS4 with mates for CoD, BF4, Fifa, Farcry, GTA etc etc

Since the dawn of gaming there have been tons of mediocre games interspersed with good ones. Its nothing new.

This. Most of my purchases are either sales (for PC) or second hand (for console). I've got a number of newer games on my Steam list which I haven't played but keep finding myself going back to the oldies. Got the urge to crack Fallout Tactics out of storage the other day, it's not even that good!

I go by my gut and if my gut senses a game will be good then usually it always is good. My gut told me "Rob, that Alien: Isolation game looks the danglies, it is going to be amazing, now go spread the word" and so I did, I spread it far and wide and look at it, it's a beautiful game in both mechanics and visual presentation with no obvious bugs causing the game to be unplayable or tedious during play.

Like Op it's the only game since The Last of Us to keep me hooked from start to end and it's rare to find a single player game that can do that for me.

At the end of it we can only truly rely on a handful of developers to do us good, everyone else is in it to take your money.

out of all of this years and maybe next years games im actually hyped for i can only think f one im actually really loking forward to which is DOOM 4.

mainstreem gaming is boring . big companies cant gamble if they get it wrong they are bankrupt. so its run of the mill story play it safe.

alien isolation prime eg of so so game which could have been amazing.
shadow of mordor same same boring after 1 hr.

i actually enjoyed sniper elite nazi zombie 2 more than many games and completed it and was 3 quid in a recent steam sale.
