Boot issue

I do apologise, I misread your OP.. thought it just wouldn't boot.

If you can't see the hardware, check the BIOS as suggested. IF it's a SATA deive on a RAID motherboard, you may have to goto into the RAID menu and configure this as a sinlge drive. It was done known that a RAID device to loose these settings. F4 to go into RAID BIOS.. but it will tell you afterPOST anyway.

Can you let me know where you are with this.

So if you enter the BIOS what do you see at..

Standard CMOS Features

IDE Channel 0 Master/Slave ; IDE Channel 1 Master/Slave
IDE HDD Auto-Detection Press "Enter" to select this option for automatic device detection.
IDE Channel 0 Master/Slave ; IDE Channel 1 Master/Slave

IDE Channel 2/3/4/5 Master
IDE HDD Auto-Detection Press "Enter" to select this option for automatic device detection.

To Split:

ok the only one in standard cmos features is my CDRW. and that is on channel 0 master

To Admiral:

my brother said something about sata or raid last night. but i have not got to a point from what i have seen, where i can press f4 to get into raid settings, let me have another go.

split.. what if he's using a SATA device? I can't remember if that comes up in the POST anywhere?

@ Pea0n

It'll say something like "Press x to enter RAID menu" or something like that.. I can't remember if or where SATA device are shown during boot. I'll check mine tonight.

I'm not sure on this board, but sata drives should show in the BIOS.
They can call them selves IDE or even SCSI but it looks like hes only seeing on drive.

See screen...
thats this board with a raptor. (36 GB WD Raptor SATA HDD 10K RPM, 9.3ms seek time)
I think raid now....

Also look at this <sata enabled no raid.

That last screen just enables/disables the raid controller... I'm refering to the RAID BIOS which is seperate.. iirc.. i could be wrong though.. i'm only going by the one I have used or set-up. I'll check mine tonight.... THis caught me out when I first set-up my rig...

You have confused me now.. You don't get as far as completing POST?

Actually, looking at that screen print again, maybe that option should be set to enabled.. I'll check mine tonight and post back.

@pea0n - What about the other screen?

There maybe a quirk with the raid on this board, but it's normally just disabled in BIOS as that screenie shows.

Entering the RAID BIOS Setup
1. After rebooting your computer, wait until you see the RAID software prompting you to press F10. The
RAID prompt appears as part of the system POST and boot process prior to loading the OS. You have a few
seconds to press F10 before the window disappears.

no i dont see that bit split. it gets stuck on the bit where it says something about DCIM or DCMI data loading or something allong those lines.

Can you be more precise please.
What don't you see and where do you see that message and what is it?

Leave the RAID alone if you only have the one drive!
That was example for Admiral Huddy who prolly knows more than me about this board as it looks like he has one.

ok i don't see the press what ever to get into raid bios.

i just photographed it, however i dont have any webspace, so i ahve to type it out!!

there is a grid with loads of numbers and this moves up the screen, it then goes to

verifying DMI POOL DATA...

boot from CD:

NVIDIA Boot Agent201.0462
copyright (c) 2001-2004 nvidia corporation
copyright (c) 1997-2000 intel corporation

client mac addr: 00 0f ea78 7d a0 guid:fffffff-ffffff
dhcp....
PKE-E53: No boot filename recieved

PKE-M0F-N0F: Exiting nvidia boot agent.
disk boot failure, insert system disk and press enter"

and i tried that
it runs through lodsa of load things on its own then it comes up with the option to go into recovery console

i press R and it tells me that the HDD needs to be connected.

Most of that you don't need.
After it hits "PKE-E53: No boot filename recieved" it should go and look for the next bootable device.
It does when it says..."disk boot failure, insert system disk and press enter"

So what is your boot order?
this..

Me thinks if your not seeing the hard drive at all in the BIOS somethings not right.

boot order is:

HD bootpriority [press enter]
first boot deviec [floppy]
2nd b d [HDD]
third b d [cdrom]
boot up floppy seek [disabled]
password check [setup]
init display first [peg]

Hmm dunno.
If it's not seeing the hard disc at all in the BIOS it either cos it's not plugged in or it bust (I guess)
Now we come to checking the sata and power leads.
Yes sata ones do fall out.

my brother checked that first off last ngiht
and i checked it again this morning
well i only checked the ones in the back of the HDD
i didnt think to check the other ends of the cables!!
be right back!!
