Hmm, have a major headache here.
Have transferred a lot of parts over to a new case and a modular Tagan PSU (wattage appears to be fine) for a friend, these parts were running fine before moving them.

Now, the system cannot recognise anything on the IDE0 connection. Have tried different cables, etc with no joy. I have also tried to run the dvd drives off it, with no success.

So, I dropped the h/drive onto IDE1 and it booted, but took an age to get into windows. After this it ran so slow it was untrue. It has 2 gig of ram and an A64 3800 on an ecs mobo.

All leads are connected properly.

I have a feeling that the IDE0 connection has gone pop and this is contributing to the system taking an age. I have turned off the IDE0 in the bios, but it still takes an age?

All help greatly appreciated. ;)

Have any of the ide pins bent?
Are u running the hard disk and dvd drive off the same ide channel with one cable? If so have u changed one to master and one to slave?

Checked the pins earlier. They are all ok.
Nope, the h/drive is running on it's own and is set to master.

I have never had a problem like this in 10 years of building pc's

Have u tried resetting the cmos?

My dad had the same problem tracked it down to the psu not being powerful enough, try disconnecting everything power wise that u dont need just try hd / graphics card and motherboard for now.

BACK UP NOW!

Check this HDD disk for errors! Check SMART is enabled in the BIOS, or find a utility to do this.

New case? New power supply?

Try with the old power supply. The Tagan may be faulty.

Try rebuilding out of the case on an anti static surface. Your new build may be shorting against the new case.

Sorted it, it was a stupid sata drive that was connected.
Rang the lad and he told me that he had been having problems with windows trying to recognise it.
Unplugged it and et voila. :D
