Hi Guys,

Firstly id like to say im new here and that i apologize if this is in the wrong place.

Well I got a new Samsung SAM 850 Pro 512gb SSD for my birthday and after plugging it in i've run into problem.

Dont get me wrong, the SSD is amazing, it works perfectly well and runs like an absolute monster.

The problem is that once i plugged it in and booted up my PC it would:

1) Boot up
2) After 5 seconds-ish (before bios i believe) shut down
3) Boot up again
4) Continue as normal and load to desktop.

This only happens every time i start the computer after turning it off from the plug. If i restart it, shut down or anything else without turning the plugs off it doesn't happen.

Im really stumped on what the problem is...

I also have another OCZ vertex 125gb ssd, and a 500gb normal HDD.
Currently running in AHCI mode.

Any help or guidance on where to look or what to do would be great.
Thanks a lot!

Does the problem go away after you unplug the new drive?
Latest firmware on new drive?
Try a different SATA cable & port.
Try a different drive power cable & port.

I've trued a different sata cable, and different power cable.
The problem does go away after unplugging the new drive.
I wasnt able to find any new firmware for the drive. Nor did it come with any

Lastly i've also noticed that sometimes the new drive likes to set itself as the priority boot option. Could this relate to something?

Ill try a new port ASAP
Thanks

When you say "after turning it off from the plug" do you mean the PC is running and you turn it off at the wall socket?

Like after shutting it down and then turning it off from the wall socket.
If i restart or shut down without turning it off from the wall socket it has no problem.

It only seems to happen before reaching bios

Are there any power saving settings on that drive in BIOS or in the drives firmware?

Sounds like the cold boot bug that some motherboards have. Google double boot or cold boot bug. Nothing to worry about but maybe a bit annoying and having HDDs power up down up quickly isn't something I like. A BIOS update may fix it, some have said disabling the marvel SATA ports fixed it aswell which may explain why you only see it after adding another drive.
