Getting this message at the post. Assuming my ssd has died, but wondering if any ideas?

Drive is an ocz vertex 2 60gb and was basically just my windows drive and few programs.

Drive isn't detected in bios and have removed it and connected it via e-sata - the drive lights up so is receiving power, but again cannot be detected in bios.

I am taking it down to my brothers this evening to test it on his rig just to confirm, but assuming it is goosed.

That likely being the case, am I better to go via overclockers (purchased January 13th 2012) or directly to ocz regarding a warranty repair/ replacement? The drive is covered by a 3 year warranty from ocz, but given that its within the first year are they likely just to refer me back to the retailer?

PITA as I cant even install windows on another drive just now as brother has my windows7 disc.

you need to put in the windows disc and boot from it,then do a start up repair,do it a few times then it should fix the startup/bootmgr issue

I would do this, but as I say the drive isn't even detected in bios, so would imagine this would rule out a windows repair (once I retrieve my windows disc)?

I have checked the drive again and it appears there are 2 led's permanantly lit. 1 green and 1 red.

The drive wasn't in sleep mode and was used all day yesterday without a hint of trouble and shut down as normal last night.

Are they prone to just fail with no warning signs?

they can just fail,im not sure on ocz but red light means theres a problem, leaving it unplugged from mb might help try for few hours then re attach it

Hi Five.Stars,

I feel detaching the V2 and letting it stand for a while is definitely good advice.

If it's then not detected you can also try detaching the V2, then clear your mobo's CMOS thoroughly, then reattach the V2.

If this does not make a difference then have you got access to another machine to see if the V2 is detected there? - if it can't be seen in multiple rigs then this is a sure sign that it is a dead parrot... and has gone to meet its maker.

I am sure you can RMA with OCZ if you wish but I suspect it may be quicker to get it replaced via overclockers.

Good luck with it.
