Borderlands 2 PhysX can be forced to run on the CPU

Thats only some very limited testing without trying some of the areas with more complex effects - also while I've not checked with whats happening with borderlands usually forcing high effects on the CPU while it will work does not reproduce the full-range of effects when running on the CPU API compared to the GPU version.

AFAIK there is no way to run PhysX on AMD GPUs currently - forcing high will just force high physics to run on the CPU usually with extended features disabled i.e. fluid simulations will be less complex or disabled, particle levels will be capped at a lower level tho still higher than the normal CPU setting tho some of this can be configured by the developer if they've licensed the full physx engine.

it's also done on the £400 6 core Intel, completely unrealistic. most people run an i5 bridge.

whats needed is a Direct Compute Hack, IE; offloaded to the GPU compute core instead of the CPU.

Cool Rroff.

As I said I wasn't sure and was thinking out loud based on when I read through that review initially :).

I'm not 100% sure what PhysX is doing on the different levels in Borderlands 2 as the developer can license the frontend source and make changes to the limits, etc. on a lot of stuff.

Cool story bro. Remind me again how well extreme AA works for you on Sleeping Dogs.

I have a 690,Sleeping dogs is the same fully maxed out EXTREME AA,constant 60fps:D
Also if anybody is a moron it is you for assuming that i had a single 680 instead of asking what i actually had.....Assumption.....The mother of all **** ups and yes you do get what you pay for in my experience, now go away and cry some more.

this is obviously really cool, but with stock 7950 and 3570k oc to 4.4ghz i've literally seen 15 fps in single player just an hour or two into the game with physx set to cpu+high. it definitely adds flavour, but i'll stick to 120fps and no physx, personally

You're comparing a card that costs at least £700 to ones which cost £300. Yes I think if we spent £700 on 2x7970 we'd get what we paid for. Looks like you doing the crying.

Im not comparing anything in my previous posts, your assuming again,How am i crying when i have a 690:D....please explain,if anything im laughing at people like you moaning,if you can afford to**go spend some money** then if you want better performance instead of crying about it,if not then STFU and be happy with what youve got:D:D:D

That post doesn't make much sense. Please learn to write better. I wasn't moaning about Borderlands performance at all. The only thing laughable here is people who expect an AMD card to run physx on high.

All the people moaning about the graphics without physix, are you blind this looks great and MalX it isn't like a cartoon it's like a comic book! The detail I realy like it must have taken ages to do all the comic book art, some people are never satisfied.
Thanks

What I don't get is if you all like Physx that much why not just lobby AMD to actually license it? they're happy to charge as much as NVidia for their GPU's but offer less features. What happened to the physics technology that AMD were supporting? couldn't they be bothered?

I'm sure they have tried, Nvidia seem pretty solid on wanting it to be Nvidia only.

AMD are doing the same thing now, the only problem is Nvidia want to keep Physx to themselves and AMD's is based on OpenCL.

As a result games using Nvidia Physx need to run that off the CPU so it's not as good on AMD cards, and AMD 'Gaming Evolved' games don't work as well on Nvidia cards because OpenCL on GTX 6## series cards isn't much good.

What we as consumers end up with is needing one or the other brand specifically for this or that game to run at it's best.

Borderlands 2 doesn't game well with PhysX via AMD, you have to turn it down to low.... BUT IT SHOULD DO, this is what i'm moaning about

Well all i got to say is i have a twin frozrlll maxed out with a fx-8150@4ghz physx set to med through game settings and 12gb ram and everything runs very very smooth no stuttering at all the game is great all this babble amd and nvidia is stupid instead of complaining play the game and enjoy it if you dont like it leave alone
