Borderlands 2 - When does it get fun?

It doesn't.

1 was by far better than 2 I found. Don't know what it was but 2 just never grabbed me like 1 did.

Pretty much these, I also don't know what is was that didn't appeal to me, I did complete it but it just wasn't fun. I think you need friends all the time to make it fun.

The main problem with playing with other is the mobs just become bullet sponges and you have limited ammo.

Check the shop every time you run into one, good greens and sometimes blues are often available there. Do the side quests that reward weapons. Or, if you want a quick and easy fix, just use golden keys.. there are hundreds available.

I must say, if you find the first playthrough difficult, you're doing something wrong. Either use your class skill more efficiently or, I don't know, get some practice in Co-op.

Sometimes.... that happens, and you just end up with unlucky weapon finds.

Have you tried using the 2 one-armed bandits in Moxxi's bar? I often find some of my best 'standard' weaponry comes from them. Yeah it's a tad repetitive, but you sometimes get some Eridium in the drops as well.

Also, get some Golden Keys, if you haven't already - and open the chest in Sanctuary a couple of times.

What character are you playing as? I found some of the characters to be much less 'fun' than others. But as said, it is better with friends doing co-op, rescuing each other, watching people do completely retarded things and laughing at them... :D

I'm gathering that the golden keys are the tickets to success here, I've harvested many of the key-codes from there and will spend some time churning out some decent weapons.

I've not tried the 1-armed bandits much as I've a limited supply of cash, much of which needs to be spent on ammo for some reason, despite it being cheap as chips I find myself buying it all the damn time.

On the story mission "Assassinate the Assassins" (level 8 difficulty), I was level 10 when I started and level 12 when I finished. I died about nine or ten times and had to run back to the vendor at the start of the area about thirty times.

I only have one friend who has Borderlands 2, and they've only played about ten hours as well, but I plan on playing co-op with them when I can, I hope it will help.

I have sourced no end of Golden Key codes from various sites and every single one of them has been invalid. Stopped looking now.

Strange. I've used a whole load of golden keys, and am still rocking 80 of them left so you must be using some iffy sites! :p

Most of those with 'unknown' in the expiry seemed to work for me when I used them not long ago.

What I find makes it enjoyable is to open it once or twice and get something fun, a new weapon or shield or grenade mod but don't go overboard with the keys. The items will last for a good few levels if they're good or suit your playstyle, and gives you a chance to pick up some other things.

Also, try experimenting with weapons more than with BL1. I've had some surprises, with some things that look like they'll be rubbish, actually being really effective. For example, I've a pistol at the moment which is about 5 levels below my character, and hits for something like 138 corrosive damage, which is way below what my other guns are hitting per hit. Thing is, it has a ridiculous rate of fire and is extremely accurate, so it's amazing for chewing through loaders and buzzards, and still pretty good if you just need to empty a mag into someone's face unexpectedly.

I'm another advocate for the "with friends" response. I've completed 1 & 2 with a couple of mates doing co-op and it was a good laugh but without them I'd say it'd be very tedious.

Just followed links posted in some of the BL2 forums. And every time I open BL2 and insert the key, it came up as invalid. Not really bothered any more, as the likelihood of getting something really decent is minimal. Tbh, pretty happy with the weapons, shields and relics I've acquired.
Besides, there is always Gibbed. :D

Never played COOP, although I did agree to play with another member, who was asking in here. He never contacted me, even though I added him in steam.
I don't play any online games, but this is the only game I would make an exception for. Maybe one day.;)

I have 82 golden keys now, not half finished with the codes on that page. I don't play it anymore, I missed the opportunity to get an £8 (iirc) season pass when it was a bug in steam store.

You're probably playing the most boring character to be honest.

Perhaps a better way to phrase it would be 'most generic' - Axton is a great all-rounder, but doesn't really specialize in anything. Once you get turret rockets he becomes just that bit more awesome though! :D

It's often on sale on the Steam sales, or keep an eye out in daily deals as it pops up often. To be honest I wasn't amazed by some of the DLC content, but I haven't played all of it yet.

Given up on golden keys. Get rubbish from the chest most of the time. Only ever found 2 or 3 things worth keeping.

I am not really sure how you're not making progress, you should be about double that in levels really :/ Did you at least make it to the first city?

Keys are only meant to give you a small boost while you level up, I think. They're no match for the orange items or some of the quest blues.

In borderlands 1, with every new "Big Guy" defeated or every new gun-chest discovered, there's a massive sense of anticipation, "Ooooh, what are we going to get this time!?!?" which was oft. rewarded with a nice new gun.

The colour coding system meant that it only took a little bit of time to sift through the looted guns and see which were worth keeping and which were worth selling.

BL2 also has "colour rarity" but it's almost entirely meaningless, as 99.9999999% of the guns you find are white, the most basic colour, and the green/purple guns seem to be near-identical.

This, pretty much.

I've only ever got interesting variations (in BL1 you used to get more individual guns IIRC) by using golden keys, the much maligned system introduced by Gearbox.
This has ZERO fun/anticipation/feeling of achievement for me personally.

Like others, I found BL1 to be a much more enjoyable game.
