Borderlands

Well that's the launch delay fubar then, what an utter mess if what the net is saying is to believed, shot themselves in the foot somewhat :(

It's been leaked and the pirated version is playable off and online while genuine buyers are still locked out from what I'm reading.
Damn. Just found an article saying some retailers mistakenly sold copies early. I didn't realise US/Canadians got to play it 5 days earlier either.

Sigh.

Leaked by some shops. Some shops broke the street date apparently and 2k acknowledged that some users had bought legitimate copies. They confirmed that the registering servers would still not enable the games before the official release date.

Of course these legally bought copies have found their way into the hands of crackers and now PC cracked versions are spreading throughout newsgroups and torrent sites. Just like the 360 version has done in the previous week.

am i correct in thinking this game cant be played until official release date as there will be no servers up to auth your copy ?

surely thats a good sign as to play online you will need a legit copy with some sort of copy protection/serial ? ... i bloomin hope so!!

They'll be able to play tonight on US servers... at a guess.

Authoring, yeah that was the word I was searching for when I said 'registering', you're right, they're only coming online on the official regional release dates. I think as usual people who do not have a legit serial will only be able to play it single player using a cracked exe.

Yep, most likely.

Similar to HL2 and other games with the same unlocking / encryption, I could play HL2 Single player if I wanted to with a "crack" but couldn't play it online. (I worked at a high street shop and snagged it 4 days before release :P)

actually, Borderlands can be play online on private network = ) still waiting for my copy of Borderlands

I played borderlands (xbox360) today at the anime/comic expo today. Absolutely loved it, it will be miles better on the PC. The guys there were setting challenges for the players, if you meet the challenge you win a t shirt cap or bag with the borderlands logo on it.

Did encounter a couple of terrain bugs and glitching sometimes over the 2-3hours i spent in the stall haha. Hopefully they won't appear in the PC version.

That is not what has happened according to what I'm seeing over the net, the pirates were able to play it online without authorisation before the official release.

Isn't this always the case? Pirates never get the limitations that we get. Of course, they will also miss out on the multiplayer side of the game. It'll be worth the wait anyway :)
