Borderlands

That is not what has happened according to what I'm seeing over the net, the pirates were able to play it online without authorisation before the official release.

Yeah not sure about the multiplayer part, some people say they can play the pirated versions multplayer online, some are saying it's lan only.

Doesn't that virtual lan 'hamachi' software pretty much allow pirated versions to be played online whatever the DRM games use anyway?

So just not sure whether pirates can connect to 2k games achievements servers, match making system etc. Maybe they wish they'd paid the extra and used Games For Windows Live now or done a deal with Steam.

Pretty sure it will still sell well, the 4 pack deal is very good value and reviews seem positive, good luck to them.

Yup, only just realised. The pirates can play this online since there is no CD-key! Crazy. Demigod all over again :s

It'll still sell well, especially on other platforms.

Thought I'd drop in my experiences of the last 5 days playing Borderlands on the 360.

First of all, this is a grind-loot game in the vein of Diablo. If that does not get you going, you will not like this game. There is a story but it's not very deep, and the quests are merely a mechanism to move you around the various dungeons. Imagine it as an FPS Diablo set in a futuristic world and it's fairly accurate. There are no built-up areas and the world is sparsely populated. The bulk of the game is set in an open desert area with various dungeons in different formats ie Cave/Undeground Complex and so on.

The main drive is combat grind and loot drops. Grind to level up and always trying to get that special weapon. Co-op is awesome, although I would not play with randoms due to the fact that anyone can pickup the loot so it can be stolen easily so you want to playing with people that won't pickup a shotgun they can't use well just because it has good stats and can be sold for a good price. Co-op is hard, a lot harder than SP as the game levels to account for the extra players. Overall the game is quite hard, you don't want to be taking on missions anymore than 1 level above your character as otherwise you will get your rear end whipped.

Enemies are nicely varied, and bosses are great fun. All in it's a cracking game but you have to like this type of game, if you don't you just won't get it.

Well, the game uses Unreal Engine 3 (I think), so the chances are there maybe a mod of some kind that's released to allow for more players. :)

That's the best thing about PC gaming for me... The community are just outstanding.

Question regarding "saves"

I understand that its only your character/build thats saves, starting in a new game resets the "world" but you keep your char - just like Diablo2.

Now, with Diablo2, you had "online" chars (kept on Bnet servers) and "offiline" kept on your computer, to play on LAN etc. Downside of local chars is that they're easy to crack/cheat/hack/whatever.

Hacking in D2 is rife regardless - but I wondered what system Borderland uses - are we going to see fully decked out level 50s running amok with duped gear??

I think the characters are all saved offline right?

On a side note, I have heard you can only play through the story twice with one character until you reach a dead end (and then can only do MP). Anyone know if this is true?

I've just purchased this on Steam and preloading for Friday. Not many games make me anxious for release, this one really does look a lot of fun.

Offline = dodgy, IMO. Its ripe for hacked characters.

And I think two playthroughs gets you to level 50, which is the cap. Again, I'm gonna sound like a miserable b**tard but I'd prefer if it took a *bit* longer than that. I know Diablo2 takes you (or would take you, if it was endless Baal) about 40-50 full runs to get anwhere near cap...be nice to take a bit more effort.

I'm expecting DLC to raise the level cap at some point though.

Yup, DLC is very likely...there seems to be a lot of talk about it on the official forums.

The game looks very fun though, and there are always other classes to play as (they all look fun).

And if this game fails, I have Dragon Age also pre-ordered on Steam :)

I've just purchased the 4-pack on Steam and conveniently I've got 3 mates bringing their PCs over on friday evening, talk about timing; it's going to be a little Borderlands party! Anyone else have something similar planned?
