Borderlands

First review is in.... 8.5 on the 360.

For those who can't see it, it says in the closing comments:

"...Borderlands is great, but not for everyone....if you love fierce combat and the kind of group-level-grinding that Blizzard's PC games specialise in, you'll feel right at home"

Sounds like there isn't any difficulty levels though? As it states "Would it have been that hard to build in save-anywhere and difficulty levels?"

The latter worries me. Comparing it as we do to Diablo, starting again on Nightmare/Hell with all you loot from earlier games is one of the highlights...

Edit - according to some goon on Steam forums, apparently "Atomic" magazine (Aus) reviewed it, giving 91%, only downside being "some repertition"

Apparently when you finish the game (aprox at lvl 30 out of 50 depending on time spent) you can restart it with much harder enemies/better drops etc.

I was thinking of getting this but looking at gameplay videos e.t.c. the gameplay looks aweful, AI on rails or just standing still and really generic boring shooting

I think they're right about what they say in the review on OXM - this is going to be a love-or-hate game. Diablo at its core is a button mashing, very simplistic click-a-thon, but the loot, levelling and "one more go" makes it fantastically addictive, and people love it.

It'll be the same for Borderlands, I expect. I'm going to wait for a few more reviews, but I'm pretty much sold on this.... I need something to bridge the gap before D3, which will probably consume my life.

theres over 3 million weapons in the game

Gearbox says there's 16-17.5 million weapon variations (depending on when the interview was made)

but iirc it is limited down some by the in game manufactures of weapons having certain rules for production (ie one making, heavy powerful, expensive hand crafted weapons using wood, and another using lightweight composites less accurate but very rapid firing weapons)

Doubt ppl will use many variations and just build the best weapon which some site will state before too long.

Btw is this an ok game on your own in single player?

You can't make your own weapons.

You want your perfect gun you better start killing things or hunting people who's gun you liked the look of :p

Loving the humour behind this, it's kind of reminding me of Joss Whedon's Firefly in the terms of dry wit it's using. But i just watched the PAX videos and i'm in love with it, going to make the perfect companion game to forza3... xbox game that?..

and yes i'm gettitng it on the xbox (heresy), silly to ask but are there any comparison shots out for pc vs xbox? Just want to know what i'm missing.
