Hello all.

I have Photoshop CS3 but am very much a novice in using it. I see lots of stunning shots posted on here, some with borders..

Is there a simple action i can download and run to apply to my shots to create a border for them or will it differ from shot to shot depening on the size?

Thanks in advance.

sorry, in house joke.

im not sure about an action, you could probably set one up easily.
google will give you loads of ways to add boarders.

if you want a quick plain black/white boarder this is how i do it.

load your picture into ps, then go IMAGE, CANVAS SIZE. make sure the RELATIVE box is ticked, i set the value to pixels normally but you can use cm, inch, what ever you want.
input a number in the width and height, choose a colour, for plain colours click on the little box colour were is says CANVAS EXTENSION COLOUR, then set the colour pallete to ONLY WEB COLOURS. this isn't essential but helps if you want plain colours.
then just press ok.

Photoshop CS3 comes with a plugin to make professional borders for online viewing of photos. Once you have processed your images simply go to file, save as, enter a name, hit return.

This is the quickest way. Then when you show photos on a forum, or on flickr/facebook/wherever, the html page will automatically provide a border with automatic sizing based on the web page frame.

Of course, if you want to print the photo and need a frame, then first you will need to find the right size frame. IKEA has some cheap frames that I have used. I use a manual technique where I use white card and double sided sticky tape to center said photo appropriately. On goes the glass and all looks good.

Thankyou, this is exactly what i wanted. Another dumb question but how do i save this action so that i can apply it to multiple photos?

Go to the Action palette and create a new action. hit record and do all of the steps mentioned. Hit stop. go to File>automate>Batch and select the new action and choose what files to affect. That's it. :)

That only works if all the files are the same size/attributes to start with, otherwise the canvas resize point will wreck a lot of pictures :p

^ If you expand it by a set percentage then you'll have larger borders on the longest side.

I'd go into edit>canvas size, check relative and then just stick a cm (or whatever) on each axis.

^ If you're putting up full-res images, then maybe, but the average 800x600 (or whatever) image can't be used for anything if people were to nick it anyway. If you're after critique on a forum, then watermarks just tend to get in the way and distract from the image.

I would think a sig and frame woudl look good for your online files.

Anyway, followed famas ideas and mine hasnt worked correctly.
