Bored of gaming

i have'nt got time, just the occasional blast usually on UT2004,
i'm still however preoccupied (not on my own i fear)with making the games -that i dont play look as good as poss, i.e. spending loads in OC and tweaking things.

I start on a game really enthusiastic and think yeh lets give this keyboard a good bashin', but again.. i end up surfing the net or watching telly as i just cant be bothered anymore. I'm bored of BF2, and completed most of the other games i own. Well... a few anyway. But i agree, gaming gets boring and repetetive after a while. Lets hope something fresh and new comes out of the pipework, not just another FPS or RTS. I like the look of spore however.

My game time has gone down significantly.

The reason for this is MSN! Seriously though I log in now and all my mates are there to talk to (mostly RL contacts) which keeps me busy for ages.

Over the last few years there’s only been a few gems Mafia, Far Cry, Wolfenstein, Morrowind, GTA etc that I have played on a regular basis. Oblivion and MK: Armageddon are the only games on my list to buy this year.

I bought Battlefield 2 and have played it for a grand total of about 15 minutes lol, same with The Movies.

I think it’s a combination of my changing lifestyle (GF, Beer, Mates, Beer, Beer etc) and the fact that a lot of games just don't live to the classics (FF7, FF8, Zelda: OoT, Deus Ex, Duke 3d etc).

Must admit I was getting well cheesed off with gaming, but picking up the c&c pack yesterday sorta spurred me on again. Playing all those old games sorta gave me some new inspiration, have started playing some of the newer stuff now.

have been playing Guild Wars a lot too, enjoying that I must say, not normally my sort of game.

Im the same, i get bored of most games really easily.

I remember the day when i was completly hooked on cs and tfc and couldnt get off the pc.

Now i just play games just because ive got nothing else to do.

I was absolutely hooked on BF2 but I got bored, I may played it a bit too much.

I have started playing a few games of DoW which for me is just great.

Considering buying a PSP for the train though...the wife is worried about the whole idea of portable gaming. :)

Yeh i don't like the idea of some dude snatching my portable console out my hand on a train or a bus. Or knifing me for it.

Oh. Thanks for that. Not all 14 year olds like to ruin games. Engage brain before pressing Submit...

He does have a point though... :)

Back in the day, in my experience, you had far nicer, tighter communities for multiplayer gaming, sure you had the usual idiot, but not as bad as now.

Now everybody has the internet, there's no limit to how many annoying kids + annoying adults with the mental age of 13, and the keyboard warrior fingers of +53.

:p

There are still some cracking offline games out there though. I always go back to single player, as in my opinon, they still are the best for a whole round experience. Multiplayer games, even MMORPGs, are dull in comparision to a good story told through a game.

Streets of rage, wonder boy in monster land, golden axe, sonic all mega drive classics too :D

Still play most off them often! Wonder boy is probably one of the most fun games of all time!

Take a break would be my advice. Don't force yourself to play games, or even consider it if you don't feel like it. One day, the urge'll hit you and you'll be hooked again. Either that or you'll be better off without, finding other things to do instead that you enjoy more.

Or you could just get hold of the holy RPG trinity of Fallout, Baldur's Gate and Torment and that'll be all the great gamage you'll ever need :P

I must admit to not having played any PC games over the last 3 weeks or so and i'm not sure why. I'm beginning to wonder if it's my age (34) catching up with me or not! I think my reactions are beginning to slow. :p

Hopefully my gaming bug will be re-kindled when i go to a mate's on Friday to have a go on his XBox360. I'm hoping playing FN3 and GRAW will encourage me to get myself an XBox360. There's not many soon to be released PC games that float my boat at the moment.

totally agree with you, the people that did play on pc's about 7-8 years ago we're technically minded people if you will, as your average joe public didnt use a pc as much as they do now. i dont like xbox live because of the age groups that are on there. some people are fine around my age (19) but there are a few kids swearing and being a pain in the behind. i think live! should have split between the children + adult population tbh so that they can play have fun while adults get some serious gaming going sometimes without silly incidents

Get a 360. I was bored of gaming since 2004 since originality went out the window. Played more on the 360 then I have on my main rig over the past years.

Completely agree. I was getting to the point where I only bothered gaming on sunday nights when we had a clan practise on CSS and BF2. Couldnt get into any of the big releases like FEAR etc.

Then I bought a 360 and it was like a breath of fresh air. PGR3 gripped me in a way no PC racer ever has thanks to its seamless online play and stunning graphics. COD2 finally proved to me that FPS can work on a console thanks to the amazing wirelss controller and now I'm loving GRAW. The main difference is you can just boot up and be online gaming in seconds, whereas its too tempting to keep fiddling with PC settings, or get distracted by the net etc. The Live service just works so weel too, with downloadable arcade games, mostly online multiplayer. Its a great laugh playing co-op gauntlet with mates over live for a quick half hour diversion. Yes, you can do that on the PC through MAME etc, but frankly I just couldnt be bothered with finding roms, managing settings, struggling to get controllers working etc.

Its also just more relaxing sat on the couch with a wireless controller. I'm a developer so sat in front of a pc screen all day. Found I was sick of getting home and doing the same thing!

All in all though, the 360 has reignited my love of games, and whilst I still play CS a couple of times a week, its 360 games that really grab my attention these days.

I do agree that mutilplayer gaming could become a victim of its own success. You look at wow as a prime example, a great game, but half the time it is filled by complete morons.

There just doesnt seem to be the community about anymore.

Quite the opposite here.

I'm playing many more games now than I have in recent years; In the last 2.5 years I've completed around 40-50 games compared to maybe half a dozen in the previous 5 years. That's slightly misleading because much of that 5 year period was spent on a single game (multiplayer game), but I'm certainly not bored by gaming in general.

If anything I'm growing frustrated at the lack of time I have to dedicate to 'entertainment'. There's dozens of games I want to play, films I want to see, and tv shows I want to watch, but I simply don't have time to fit them in around work, gf, internet and other commitments.

Let me put it this way: I could easily take a 3-month break and do nothing but play games without getting bored, there's such a backlog queued up now.

Yeah i was the same. I used to do 25-30 hours a week on CSS, then the novelty fell away and i went down to about 1 hour a week. Got BF2 now and am holding about 10 hours a week, which i think is fair enough.

Those were the days.
