Get the Pirelli P7 Cinturatos. That price is excellent.
Conti SC2s are ancient.

P7 Cinturatos. Big difference.Ta for the tip. What made you very impressed with the P7s btw?
Michelin Pilot Sport 3's for £12 more than Falken 452's and other "midrange" stuff - YES PLEASE!

I was just surprised with the level of grip they offered, along with how long they last. They also did very well recently on a tyre test.
Could be wise on a heavy, 4wd car.
FWIW, I've got F1 Assy 2s on the front of my Z3, and will be putting a set on the rear to replace the knackered PS2s.

Why? Based on that list and the prices there's at least 6 on it that I'd have before even considering the PS3's.
Seriously? I would be delighted to hear what 6 tyres you would have on that list before a Michelin Pilot Sport 3.
Most of the other stuff on the list are midrange or old. It seems Michelin are one of the only manufacturers to bring out one of their new tyres to that size wheel. All the other manufacturers have either old tyres or midrange ones on offer at that size.
Yeah, seriously. Most people assume that because it bears the Pilot Sport name that it's of the same calibre at the PS2's, which it's not. It does seem to have reviewed fairly well (that is, assuming unbiased reviews)
It does seem to have reviewed fairly well (that is, assuming unbiased reviews), but it's not exactly trouncing the competition
and is pretty much the most expensive tyre in its "range".
6 may have been pushing it admittedly, but I'd be looking at the Vredesteins, Pirelli P7's, SC2's and Uniroyals before the PS3's, from that list.
I just got a 09 Golf GT TSi with 225/40/18 tyres on it, and I need 2 new ones - here is a spattering of the choice on Blackcircles: (Looked at Camskill, and with most of these the saving isn't huge, plus if I get certain tyres I'll get lots'o clubcard points so that would in effect make the saving even smaller)
P Zero Nero - £119.89
P Zero - £121.13
CSC2 - £126.08
P Zero Rosso - £127.50
Eagle F1A2 - £131.34
CSC3 - £137.18
Pilot Sport 2 - £131.62
Potenza RE050 - £139.52
The car already has 2 nearly new Avon ZZ3s on, and I've read ok things about them so they're staying. Any thoughts on the tyres available above - as I understand it the Nero is quite good, so is it worth the small saving? Should I stick the ZZ3s on the front or the back of the car?
edit: need a new sig![]()
I suppose when you put it like that...Look at Lovetyres.com
I know the Goodyear F1A2 is £105 on there in that size. £216 inc del iirc and with fitting at £12 per tyre it should work out at £240 instead of £262 from BlackCircles. If you can be bothered, you should save around £22, which pays for a takeaway or two![]()
The PS3 seems to garner similar reviews to the PS2. From the top of my head, it too used to be a top 5 tyre.
Is that what you're basing this on? Shows why you need to drive on tyres rather than read reviews.
PS3 isn't even close to the awesome PS2's, not by any stretch, that's why it's so misleading. If you went from PS2's to PS3's on the same car, you'd notice a big difference. PS3's are, IMO, more like the original Pilot Sports i.e. not as good as the price suggests they should be.
PS2 was pretty much up there as the best all round tyre for road use in it's time.
Again, i don't remember this being the case. Anything to back it up? I remember PS2's having a good wear rate, delivering good levels of grip, but costing like 25% more than other top line tyres.
There does seem to be a bit of a dearth of reviews on the Conti Sport 2s, not sure why. Wet grip is relatively slightly less on the P7 Cinturatos but decent ride comfort and long life may make up for it, especially considering they are nearly 20% cheaper.. which is obviously nice.
