Boris Becker jailed for two and a half years following bankruptcy scam

crazy he gets jail but almost every week you can find someone in a paper who did some violent crime that never ever gets sent down, all those female pedos that get off....

smash someone in the face with a base ball bat... full force like..
judge said he would suspend his prison sentence after hearing he had been injured in a car accident.
suspended sentence cos he had been in a car accident some years earlier...

Stephen Hailstone was caught when police, who were investigating an unrelated disturbance, discovered a cocktail of narcotics at his home, including cocaine, amphetamines and cannabis.
his defence ?
A dealer who claimed he sold drugs as a "hobby" to "pass the time"

the police found
They found 5.7g of cocaine, four cannabis plants, 8.66g of amphetamine and more than 900 tablets of two different class C drugs, along with hundreds of snap bags
surely thats prison sentence 100% guaranteed?
He was sentenced to two years suspended for two years with a three month curfew and rehabilitation.
our judges are a joke....

maybe Becker should have claimed emotional trauma from having to sell his trophies or claimed he was abused as a child, surely would have got off for free, if not add a car crash or failed marriage sob story, better yet get katy prices lawyer

He's not the messiah he's a very naughty boy.

Seriously, sad to hear about Becker, I can remember his win at a very early age. He has an impulse problem clearly hence why he was short on money, its obviously emotional for sportsmen to sell their trophies reminds me of OJ case. He should receive help and be let out pretty early tbh

Because we live in a greedy capitalist society.

No one cares about the little guy, someone robs your house, scares the crap out of your wife, steals personal belongings and makes it so you don't feel safe in your own home, they get given education and support, and a back rub.

But you steel some money off those huge companies with their endless coffers and high paid lawyers, well .......

Or because his offence was specifically one against the court and the legal system.

You speed and you get a fine and a few points.
You lie about who was driving to the court and they find out, you potentially go to jail, especially if you conspire with others to do so (an MP and his wife found that one out the hard way).

Basically any time you interfere deliberately with the operation of the legal system, especially lying under oath in what are provably lies (and your submissions for bankruptcy are done effectively as "under oath" and you declare them to be truthful and accurate to the best of your knowledge) the court is going to default to about the harshest punishment they can, as it is an attempt to undermine the operation of the legal system.

The official receiver in bankruptcy cases is a court appointed official whose job is specifically to ensure that money isn't being hidden from the court that could be used to pay off your debts.
How would you feel if someone claimed they were bankrupt to avoid paying your several million pounds they owed, I suspect you'd be rather annoyed if the court found out about it and did nothing.

So it's okay to steal £2.5m from someone who can afford to lose it?

No of course not.

But if the 2 years punishment is deemed adequate or correct for that, the punishment for violent crimes against individuals doesn't seem to be in comparison?

Unfortunately or fortunately, sentencing between crimes of different natures are not measured against each other.

I don't think he should have been sent to prison for a non-violent crime. His crime is financial. So he should have got a financial punishment and a heavy community related sentence in my opinion.

A waste of everyones time.

How do you give an individual a financial punishment when they have no money?

Pretty sure as well that it was more the fact that he lied after already being given a warning that pushed it to a jail term
