Do you have any hard statistics for financial crime? You could make the argument that financial penalties are a good deterrent because they committed the crime for financial gain. However, I think people who commit white collar crime are much more likely to be fearful of prison than people who commit violent crime.We know that prison doesn’t work. If I can be bothered to find hard statistics for you I will. If you look at all the countries with the best outcomes from prison and punishment, they usually prioritise rehabilitation, alternative punishments and fixing the core issue rather than simply prison as a form of punishment.
