Too much focus on image and style, in all aspects of life recently.
I like the relaxed approach, but wish it didn't come off so farcially.
At least there seems to be an effort to make things fun again in an unpretentious way, something which has been absent from British culture for a long time (??).

Well done Boris I say - WHY should we churn out a group of cones like the Chinese? We will put a superb games on in London - at least half of the infrastructure is in place, including some stunning world-class venues. Wembly, Wimbledon, the O2 arena, Weymouth/Portland, the Thames for the rowing, the London Marathon course, Regent's Park will also be used I believe. The tube is capable of trasnporting large amounts of people about. Hell, I'm looking forward to getting tickets for the Football at St James's park if I can!

Dunno about anyone else but I'm getting tickets for the cycling, swimming, possibly rowing and of course athletics. Don't know about the opening ceremony, I kinda dread whatever 'British' things they'll put together for it ;)

indeed. who gives a toss about the opening ceremonies? what we need to get right is the venues and the logistics for moving people about. and of course some more funding for our athletes so we can grab even more medals. :D

Come on you really think, Lisa S sucking off the head less horseman is worth 400k?

Fixed.

I wonder how Britain will open the olympics in 2012 ?

I am guessing chavs juggling white lighning bottles and spectacular pyrotechnics while police cars are torched.

As for Boris, I think he's a breath of fresh air.

Swimming is a difficult one as the venues tend to be smaller, so good luck. Assuming ticket prices are reasonable (they should be), I'll probably put my name down for as many events as I can that don't clash - opening and closing included. Some of them - e.g. athletics and the ceremonies - will inevitably be heavily over-subscribed, so whether I'll get tickets is another thing. I'll do the same with the paralympics - more likely to get tickets there for reasons that shouldn't need explaining (though it's a shame it has to be that way).

Funny how China managed to host an amazing Olympics while oppressing Tibet, trying to hush up the fact that people were falling off the Bird's Nest while it was being constructed, trying to give a positive image of themselves to the world even when everyone knows about their Human Rights records, trying to deal with the pollution issues, etc, etc. (Not that I disagree with China's policies or would protest against them, just mentioning the facts).

And some people on this forum think a badly cut suit is an issue...

Sister and myself swam with / competed against half the current British team so I think we'll be alright hehe :D

Not to mention entering underage gymnasts, faking singing, faking fireworks and setting up protest pens which you have to register to protest in, then get arrested when you turn up anyway! :D

BBC presenter was talking about something one of the Chinese said to him (presumably in an interview), about how in the West you can't get any work done between all the coffee breaks, human rights, short days, days off, sick pay, etc. Said how the Chinese just have the will to work hard to achieve goals.

Methinks the Chinese dude forgot to mention a few things when talking about how they get their people to work :D

I know, it seems China has achieved its goal to a lot in here and a lot of the worldwide audience of they way they want to be perceived well in fact it’s the opposite, people have quickly forgot what is happening over there and instead moaning about the mayors suite.
