So, I opened up gumtree the other day, and noticed a 125cc bike going very cheaply, with a starting issue, and a slack chain. It was A 63 palte "KSR Code X 125" with 11000 miles or so.
It was up for £200, and I asked the guy if he would take £150. He agreed, provided I bought it that day (had a 650 bike coming the next day or something). Got him to ride it around the street for me, and loaded it up into the trailer, and dragged it home.
It looks a lot better than I expected, and the fact it actually works (mostly) surprised me, when at that sort of price, it also had a V5 which very few other adverts could claim to have..

I love the listed make on the V5 though!
"Generic"

So, going to whip out the battery, give it a charge, see if it comes to life, then see if it can be cleaned up a bit. Also ordered a new chain/sprocket kit to replace the probably knackered original one.

Plan is to ride it to the office every now and again, and have something to tinker with. Also gives me a mode of transport when/if my car is in for any work/maintenance :) MOT is up in October, so should be ok to ride for this summer.

I have no doubt that as motorbike enthusiasts, i have upset you all immensely by buying such a terrible bit of tat, but its my first bike other than the classic Z50a, which is really not up for being driven on a commute for any real length of time.

Got a wall anchor coming to put off opportunistic scrotes, and a cover, just to hide it from the worst of the weather.

Lets see how this works out!

Nice, I look forward to seeing your progress. These have always interested me, people are always banging on about how crap Chinese bikes are (guilty of this myself at times) but then people were saying the same about the Japs in the 70s and look where that ended. China also manufactures tons of bikes for other manufacturers so they're undoubtedly learning from others what westerners want and how to improve quality. I reckon in 10-15 years time Chinese bikes will be the new Japanese bikes.

A bit like Korean cars. 10 years ago you would've been laughed at for driving a Kia. Now they rival ze chermans in many aspects.

Keep us updated, rather intrigued :)

Will get some pics tonight, this was the one in the advert:

Had one of these come in as a freebie with a PX while working in my old job.

I had the "luxury" of riding it home (15miles) the bike only had 600 miles on it...

in the space of 15miles:

It's broke down 5 times.
got stuck in 3rd.
Overheated.
and caught fire.

A fantastic vehicle.

I would stick it straight back on gumtree, cut your losses and run the other way. It will turn in to a pile of rust before winter ends and to get any parts, lol good luck with that.

Anyone can buy a chain and sprocket set, try a throttle or clutch cable, I worked at a Suzuki dealership for 7 years and the last 18 months these chinese things started to appear and people expected to be able to buy stuff for them. What a night mare that was and glad I got out when I did.

So, if I can make it 15 miles without becoming (a slow) ghostrider, I am onto a winner!

Honestly bud, from my experience with Chinese bikes, they are more trouble than their worth, especially if you have any plans to use it as a commuter for work, because it will break, it'll fail to start, things will fall off and it'll last all of 5 mins in this climate and on our roads.

I've spent £150 on much more pointless / useless stuff. I dislike the awfulness of the Chinese bikes but for £150 to be honest, you can't really go wrong. If it lasts for a while then that's awesome, if it doesn't last very long it's not like you've wasted a couple grand.

Both quoted parts are on eBay new

Regardless, I am aware there may be issues, but someone managed to use this as their only transport for 3 years. Must be some life in it, and for 150 quid it's not the end of the world.
