Bought a flat!

Unless you have a 25% or more deposit there is not a chance in hell of getting a rate below 5%. For an 15% deposit it is a good deal, just look around and see what the current mortgage deals are like and you will see. The lenders arent passing the rate cuts on unless you have silly amounts of money for a depost.

I was thinking more like just jumping onto someone's standard variable rate, safe in the knowledge said rate will be staying low for the forseeable.

It's real wood flooring throuought with the exception of the kitchen and bathroom im just not a fan of wooden flooring, don't think its very homely.

To get onto the variable rates you need hefty deposits too, more than I could afford.

I would never use the fireplace, it dictates the way the room is layed out and it would just annoy me. I cant see the price falling much more than 81k to be honest fireplace or not. They are leaving all the kitchen stuff and all the light fittings but the furniture in the living room and bedroom will be going with them.

Leave the wooden flooring there and get big rugs or carpets, ripping it out would be a BIG mistake. Same with the fireplace.

I am jealous. That looks absolutely lovely. However, I take consolation in the fact that you're still in Glasgow. :p

It adds a focal point to a room, instead of a 52inch flatscreen with some wire poking out.
As said when it comes to selling you'll get more "ach, there's no fire place" to "i think i'm going to rip it out"

But this is also coming from a point of view where I think something like that is a crime against architecture and design. *mincess off with a lisp*

I wouldn’t rip the flooring up, just carpet over it in the living room, it can always be taken off, no big deal. The fireplace will be going, i don’t like them. I know plenty of people who don't like fireplaces and wouldn’t pay extra for the feature, I’ll just take the chance when i come to sell it, I’ll have it for a good few years and I know I’ll make money on it regardless if the fireplace is there or not.

Looks like a cracking pad!

Don't rip out the floors or fireplace though!!! It would be mental, you'll be spending money on decreasing the future value of your flat :p

Plus the reason it looks a bit 'girly' is because it's been fitted and decorated by someone with a bit of taste (lol) - I'd be well happy living there without any changes!

Looks ace mate, great deal. We're looking to sell ours this year next to Parkhead. Worried sick at the moment as we're counting on the equity as deposit for a larger house. We'd be wanting about the same as you paid, but it's no where near as nice yet!

theDude - I bought a 1 bedroom semi detached bungalow with drive, large gardens etc. for £65K just 3 years ago in North Lanarkshire. 40mins drive from both Glasgow and Edinburgh. I can't even begin to understand how people down south manage to get on the property ladder, it's just silly prices down there. We're looking at 4 bedroom houses in ace neighbourhoods with garage etc for £200K. I'd be scared to think what they'd cost me down in England.

One of my mates has just sold his 3 bed house in commuter-ville on the outskirts of london for about £230,000 after being on the market for under 2 weeks so its not all about million £ houses.

Looks very smart :)

Merlin- Interest rates won't be staying at these levels for too long!

Very nice. I'm with you on putting carpet down. Maybe not the living room, a rug would suffice there but i'd prefer carpet in the bedroom.

theres been a lot of "I just bought a *property*" thread on here lately.. does this mean people are actually buying houses again? Could be good news as my parents have been trying to sell their house for over 2 years now. Nice house too! its a shame this 'climate' means they won't get a decent price for it :(
