Bought a Project

Quick question, I've been offered a volvo 740 for £250 with 11 months mot and 6 months tax... I'm after a reliable work horse, so is this worth it, and it is economical to drive etc. I'm drawn by the fact that its got full leather, a/c, built like a tank,

not keen on the faded maroon colour, but I think i'll paint it matt black with a brush a la mad max

If its full leather, it will be like mine, 2.3 engine, bulletproof, heated mirrors/seats etc.

Anything with 11 months MOT and 6 months tax for £250 is a bargain but even more so with a volvo.

Its far from economical round town (about 240 miles to a tank round town) but MUCH better on a run.

But the way i look at it is, the car is so cheap to buy and maintain, a few extra quid in fuel bills is acceptable :)

Good grief, I thought I did the old man thing when I had a Mondy at 22 but you take it to a whole new level! What's next on the agenda then, a Stannah fitted to your staircase? ;)

Ah well, whatever floats ya boat. Hope you enjoy it :)

Thanks for all the comments so far :) good or bad, i dont mind.

I'll be keeping an up to date log of progess, but im in no rush to get it all sorted.

Like I said elsewhere - it needs to be a proper Rod-Style paintjob. Satin, Scallops, red steels, whitewalls and baby moons.

what happened to your 740 turbo? nothing would be funnier seing it fitted with a dump vavle racing round the countryside towing a caravan scaring small animals when you changed gear :D

I had a funny feeling about the car when i drove it. I just didnt think it would be as good as my estate. Its something i cant explain, just a gut feeling, so i told it for what i bought it for.

8v, and your right, its not "OMGZ SLOW". it keeps up with my mates 2.0HDI pug 307. Im happy with the speed of it. Its no rocket but its just moderately good.

The caravan is now round the back of the house, after a job maneuvering it round there, and nearly ripping the exhaust off my volvo on the lip that separates the 2 driveways (you can see it in the last picture, 3rd post), the exhaust made a horrible CRUNCH sound as it hit the ledge. I keep catching the dam thing. Will have to get it sorted.

just ordered a winter cover for the caravan, to drop anymore damp from getting in over the next few months.

Theres not much more i can do to it untill the nice weather again now. Perhaps a few interior improvements, and that will be it.

The plan is perhaps to take a week off around the end of march time, and have a really good go at sorting things, in time for Le Mans come June :)
