Bought a spitfire!!!

i think a servo is the answer, the power in the brakes is there but the force required to get that is way too much i.e. leg hurting force. im used to classic car brakes from my dads 1970s corvette and they weren't nearly as bad as this.

anyway im picking it up after work tonight, im gettin so so excited, first time in a proper drive of it. i can't wait till 9pm so i can go get it.

I remember a friend of mine in his old road rally spec mini, had an oversized brake pedal (think like the brake pedal in an automatic car), so he could stand on it with both feet if necessary!

I would expect the 'Vette to have what the Americans call "Power Brakes" (in other words, servo-assisted)

Canley Classics should be able to help you out. Consider a set of grooved and drilled disks and EBC pads. Also change the hoses to braided. The original style ones can weaken and bulge under pressure, restricting the pressure on the pads. Or changing to a GT6 system. They're supposed to be stronger and better, but you have to get every part, you can't just change the calipers. You can get a GT6 vented brake conversion kit, but that's a few quid ;)

I would think that something is a tad amis if the brakes are poor. My "spitfire" has the straight six 2.0 lump in the front and I have no problem stopping.

There's loads of help on the Club Triumph web site and you don't have to join the club to register on the forums.

Where are the pics? Here's a shot of mine to get you in the mood :)...

has a lot of body problems i.e. rust but it should be easily fixed and its going for a respray in the winter.

They are gorgeous...

Spitfire was the best looking small sports car ever IMHO....

People raved about the MGB GT but the spitfire was light years ahead in looks...

Nice motors guys, look after em

:D

MMMMMMMMMMmmmmm.... Minilites

I'm not a big fan personally. They were what was on it when I bought it. I prefer slots. You can get these from Rimmer Bros for the Spit, but I'm not sure if they fit the GT6. They're not listed in the GT6 parts :(

im a much bigger fan of the wired wheels i.e. this one

but if you don't like the mini lites i'll swap ya! lol.

according to the triumph guys my brake problem is the pads and the plastic brake pipes, need to switch to braided steel to stop them bulging.

if thats thats the case then get on ebay.co.uk
I had a quick look on there to see what you were all talking about, (also to see if someone was selling a spitfire plane :D ) and there were about 4 or 5 sets of those spoked wheels :)

im utterly skint at the moment and the wheels are gonna be the last thing i do to it. need to get the body and various electrical bits sorted first.

it has front fog lights but no switch for them and im stumped as to how i find out if they work. guess a voltmeter and see if they connected to the lights circuit.
