Bought an old BMW M3, filled with regret...

Yup, Admiral did say if it comes to that, then the recovery cost would be on me to get the car to him, this is £100. This is fine, as I'd probably not end up having to pay that anyway.

At least as of now I know one thing for certain. Admiral value my car at £9900 based on their valuation without even seeing the car. The independent valuator that will be seeing it should increase that figure as his/her valuation is based on more factors than just age and mileage which Admiral only go by.

If we still don't come to an agreement then it's off to mate's bodyshop and get it all done through him. I've spoken to him this evening and he's had a few price quotes back for genuine BMW parts. As an example, the exhaust from him will be £440, brand new. From BMW with club discount it was just under £670.

They can easily look the VIN up themselves, this is ridiculous.

I have just spent all of 12 seconds and I now know your VIN, they can do this also. What a bizarre request.

I'll send you it so you can tell them if you like :D

They know it now, lol. But yes I did raise an eyebrow when the guy asked for my permission to phone BMW to get the VIN...

Shame, they seemed so good and helpful the first few days. Now it just seems like they are being noobs.

Good luck with that Robbie, I'm a bit late spotting this thread, but am gutted for you about the accident :(

I hope you get as good a result as Freefaller with his Zed! :)

Thanks!

I just ran some numbers, assuming they approve the new valuation and go ahead with repairs, I won't get the car back until early January at the earliest. So assuming another 21 days of hire car, that's £525 on top of the £175 already earned. I reckon a grand could be fairly easy to make out of this.

Neat!

Not a major update like I was expecting but had a call from the tech at BMW who had a brief with the valuator today before the valuator sent off his photos and bits to Admiral. He told BMW that the insurer is unlikely to pay for the other wheel to be refurbed also (the finish needs to be redone on the other wheel on the same side so both the wheels match in the American Chrome finish) - Obviously that's one battle to fight once BMW have the go ahead to begin repairs. But the whole idea of all this is to be put back on the road in the same state I was in before the accident, having one wheel a slightly different shade to the other is not the same.

The other issue is that the exhaust from BMW is not available until March. So base don that alone Admiral could turn around and say no it's a write-off because they would have to continue paying the hire car costs for 3 more months - Can they write the car off on this basis even? Sounds totally bs to me and grounds to file a complaint with the FO with...

...But BMW have said in this kind of circumstance, they would normally be able to provide a long term courtesy car though as it's ultimately their stock issue holding things back, so would work with both parties to sort this out.

Other than that, BMW guy said the valuator was happy with everything he''d seen so far.

So there's a strong chance I won't have my car back until March if the insurer gives the authorisation to get the repairs done.

Headache after headache.

No idea of the law but I think it's reasonable to write off a car as surely they are basing the cost on the entire project, part of the project is having you in a car for 3 months. If the project costs too much then I don't see why it's unreasonable to write it off.

Well that would suck even more.

I'm hoping then that they authorise the repairs, take the car away, which saves them hire costs plus my £25 cash a day, then BMW can supply me with a dealer car. Saves the insurer a fat wad of money then, and BMW's supplied car should be something decent?
