Brought me my lapping kit today. Was fairly expensive @ 10 pounds. It includes

2x of every of the below sandpaper
400

600
800
1000
40 micron
25 micron
20 micron
15 micron
10 micron

I also got a tube of Artic Silver 5 and some special grit. The man said it has a abrasive power of 10000  He said it gives a mirror finish.

Will be interesting to see how it performs. Have to say im not expecting much for 10 pounds.

tbh I would expect miracles for £10 - self made lapping kit of £3 gave me mirror finish (which isn't required for good temps btw - flatness is what matters!).

10 pounds here or there is no issue for me.

Im hoping there is enough paste and sandpaper to do 2 chips and heatsinks.

I have a Pentium 4 65nm. Gonna overclock it to hell and back. Going to try for 5ghz. Then I am going to get me a new C2D.

Should have cost 50p for a few sheets of paper from your local friendly DIY guy!

lmao. I live in the back of beyond. To get to the nearest town is 40 miles away traveling over a mountain pass.

The village I live in while reasonably big (population 2000) :D and has some good shops, most definitly does not sell high quality sandpaper

Read here. You should use less than a quarter of a tube and get good results. Using a whole tube would be insanity.

I suppose a tenner isn't bad for the amount of paper you got, but after lapping to 1200 myself, I don't see any purpose in going further. It's all about flat, not shiny, after all. My "lapping kit" was a set of 240, 600, 800 and 1200 paper from Halfords for all of two quid.

The answers to that question are littered in this thread. You'd have to proactively try to miss them.

id go for 400 ----> 800 ----> 1200 then be done with it. only need a 3 step lap process.
