Good CPU to start on :) you going to lap the heatsink/waterblock at the same time?

Also please don't use brasso on the heatsink/cpu to make it reflect like a mirror.

anyway, I lapped my 6700 tonight and it appears to be idling 5-7c lower than before, not tested load temps, I want to let the new as5 bed in.

Sandpaper is generally sand paper, you don't necessarily need super high quality stuff. Are you saying your village doesn't have one single sheet of sand paper good enough to grace your heat spreader?!

And learn to spell :rolleyes:, take the criticism for your appalling spelling on board and you may not end up an illiterate village (pop. 2000) idiot after all ;).

PS it's "bought" not "brought" unless you went and fetched it yourself! :D

PPS "traveling" has two "L"s.

Thank God for that, stop being a complete tool. If minor spelling and grammr bothers you enough to trash what was a perfectly cheery thread then you really need to get out more.

Anyway OP looking forward to seeing the results, was thinking of doing this myself but just wasn't too sure how to go about it. And what's this paste you need to use when lapping...

EDIT - 1337-krew edit out the swearies and don't give them the satisfaction by acting like a 12-year old... you should be mature enough to just ignore it. Some people literally have nothing better to do, it's the internet and you'll always get people like that. Just deal with it. :)

Completely out of order and you know it. Sorry but people like you and zombie ruin this place for others, you've completely trashed the thread just for nothing more than the most loserish pedantism i've yet seen, for the sake of a couple of mis-spelt words. If you spoke to someone as rudely as that in real-life it would kick off bigtime, so why do it on here...?

I seem to have knocked about 5c off my idle and 10+ off my load by lapping, just don't get your thumb in the way.. ouch :eek:

Brillaint didnt think of that.

Well my work is finished so on with the lapping.


This is what im going to do.

Put sandpaper (rough stuff first) on glass and sellotape down

Put some water on gritty bit of sandpaper. Rub around for around 10mins

Repeat for it all


that should do?


P.S does anyone know of a program to use to benchmark pc now so I can see if there is a difference?

what I did was take a clipframe apart for the glass..

got some 400 grit a bit damp and then rubbed the chip up and down for about 10 seconds, then rotated it 90 degrees and repeated and kept going until I had done a full turn.

I tried to use new bits of sandpaper for each turn.

I went round 3 times with 400, then proceeded to 800 for 2 turns and then 2000 and 2500 to finish off.

You have to keep looking at it to see how you're getting on and when you're happy, you're done.

It looks like you’re suspended (hard luck) but I presume that you can still read this. I would argue that I have made constructive comments, namely when I suggested that instead of shelling out ten pounds on a lapping kit, you could simply go down to your local friendly hardware shop and purchase three sheets for a pound and be nine pounds richer. Obviously these lapping kits come with some kind of über-sandpaper that I haven't heard of. I will also make another constructive and suggest that next time you take a step back before ranting like a five year old girl and think about what you’re going to type.

Hey come on Rich, that’s a bit dramatic. You’re not an actor by trade are you? If you believe that this forum is entirely ruined by z0mbi3 and myself then you need to get some perspective! I say this stuff to people all the time, most people take it as banter and retort with something of their own rather than shouting and screaming (and subsequently being clobbered with the ban-hammer ;)). Maybe I will get banned for my attitude towards spelling but I know what I'd rather be banned for :).

I'd argue that if you feel the need to ridicule and patronise someone for minor spelling and grammar errors then it's you who needs to get a grip mate. It's trolling... no more no less, but that seems to be acceptable on these forums for some reason. And you would stoically accept being banned for that? Ok... er... you sound like a great bloke. Ahem.

For a start don't tie me in with Robbie G, I've tried not to be insulting where as he's come out guns blazing.

I corrected l337-krew and he got abusive. Being abusive was the catalyst that made this thread start straying and I wasn't about to let it slide.

What's out of order is resorting to insults because you can't take a bit of correction.

To be honest if people really cared about this place they'd put a bit of thought into what they were typing or, if they made a mistake, not attack others for picking them up on it.

I've re-read this thread and I'm happy with what I've said. It's not my fault l337-krew reacted the way he did. It's not like I called him a retard or anything, I just didn't like being told to **** off and called a monkey for being wrong when I was actually right.

Anyway this was a week ago and I'd said everything I'd wanted to say then, so instead of derailing his thread any more why don't we just leave well alone?

I never said you needed to get a grip "mate", I said some perspective.

Trolling is too often a buzz word on this forum for anyone that disagrees with someone, and if you are happy trying to decipher all but unreadable English then I'm happy for you. If caring about English makes me a troll, then I guess I'm a troll.
