Bought some expired medication from Tescos

I tried to resist coming into this thread....I failed.

Take your entitlement expectation, throw it out the window. Go back, be polite but firm, get a refund/replacement and be happy if you walk away with some store vouchers/money off something.

If you gain nothing out of it, so what? Turd happens, larger things in life to be concerned about.

That or, you know, take the stuff. My Diclofenac sodium works just as well now as it did when it was 'in-date'

The reality is that it would have made no difference whatsoever.

Broadly speaking with regards to pills and sealed powders, they can last years past their "use by" date.

The only thing that NORMALLY happens is that their effectiveness can be slightly compromised.

I can't speak for the 0.5% or whatever of the specialist stuff that falls outwith of my statement.

Ive taken antibiotics that were supposed to be used by 2007, and that was recently. Worked a charm as you would expect.

Throwing perfectly usable drugs away is a scandal. Not only do they pollute the environment, its a total waste.

As for the OP, its flaming LEMSIP, lol, its not chemotherapy ffs!!

Its going to make no difference whatsoever!

Dude, that is not good, especially with antibiotics, there is a reason for why an expiry date exists, antibiotics is a risky business.

I can tell from this that the title in your username is fictional. You really shouldn't be advising people to take antiobiotics that are 4 years out of date, that's just not very clever.

Did they smell okay? :o

Also I'm pretty sure this 'don't worry, take medication when it goes out of date, it'll be fine, ocuk promise' is exactly the sort of stuff the 'no medical advice' rule is supposed to prevent.

Take it back and they'll replace it.

Take it back and complain angrily (if you're in the mind to) and you're likely to get it replaced and get a goodwill payoff.

Within the store a message will be passed on to the relevant department that they ****** up with the code checking on the medicines aisle and they should check it again asap to get anything still out of date off the shelves.

IIRC its a £5000 fine for every item found out of date if an inspector finds a store selling out of date stock.

Reality is, if you go to a big superstore and inspect every single aisle you will find several items out of date. It'll take you all day mind you.

I personally wouldn't tell someone else to mess with expiry dates but I know the ones that matter and there's a lot of things with a token expiry date far shorter than it really is.

Say a proper salami from the deli, a whole one. Say it was 3 months out of date but had been stored correctly and had no damage that might compromise it. I'd have it.

by any chance?

I'd take it back to the store, but go and check the shelf where you got it from first. Your complaint will be far stronger if you can say 'and there's still a load of out of date stuff on the shelf'. If there isn't, thats not a problem, but if it is there then they'll know its pretty serious.

On a complete tangent, for the last couple of weeks I've been working at Tesco, we've been handing out carrier bags which are past their use by date by around 4 months to a year. And some of the bags had out 'tesco charity of the year 2008' on them. Yay for clearing out stock.

A few weeks out of date, who cares, secondly, its basic medication, a bit of paracetomal mostly. The decongestant can work alright, or not at all, but mostly speaking a really bad flu its the ache's and pains that make you feel worst, and if you take some decent pain killers you'll feel a lot better. It doesn't treat anything, just helps you feel better as you get better already.

You can be a common day douchebag where you try and think of a way to screw a huge corporation out of the money they don't deserve. Try not to feel guilty when they work out who stacked the shelf, and fire someone on a crappy wage from a job they desparately need.

You can be a decent person, ask for a replacement and be happy if they apologise sincerely, even happier if they give you a voucher.
