You're all forgetting that it's Christmas.

Rafa has been planning this all along. Before kick-off, there'll be a huge present on the centre spot. Rafa will walk up and undo the ribbon and WAYHEY! it's AQUAMAN!!

Rafa's Xmas present to the fans.

I fancy us nicking a point against Chelsea the season we're having. :D

Given Chelsea's recent questionable form, i'd quite fancy it as well.

I also think Wolves will get at least a point, and drive another nail into the Spanish Waiter's coffin (is there even any space for more?). :o

[Edit] Should have made it a "Christmas Fixtures" thread and added the 27th/28th games as well Tummy. :p

Any news on weather for boxing day and a couple days after?

I wonder if at some point Rafa will cave and move back to a 4-4-2, stick Gerrard in central mid again, put Johnson on the wing and an actual defender at right back, push Kuyt or Ngog upfront. Johnson is just such a ruddy awful defender, but has more pace and better delivery than Kuyt and the other option is benching a guy you spent £17 mil on.

Worried for Arsenal that a spluttering attack won't really penetrate a decent defence. Will have to see, Diaby, Song, Denilson against a decent team will leave us desparately short of creativity and movement. We'll have to see what team we put out, but we've done very badly against the top half of the table so far and I can't really see that changing.

Why does this seem so obvious to everyone but Rafa? The only problem I can see with playing Johnson on the wing is we don't have a decent replacement at right back. It think we really miss Arbeloa and Sami.

Aurelio/Dossena, I really can't see why either one couldn't play there. Luke Young put in a string of decent performances at left back, its the same job, being the wrong foot is rarely an issue, pinpoint accuracy with the wrong foot isn't required when booting it out/up the field, which any footballer can do on his "weak" foot.

They certainly can't be worse than Johnson so it really doesn't matter.

When the entire defence has been fit and its been the same back 4 except Johnson, Liverpool have looked hugely worse defensively, its not a coincidence, he's a truly terrible defender. The fact we might start him in the world cup is just embarrasing.

The fact is Gerrard/Torres worked a bit last season because people weren't used to it, Gerrard hasn't been anywhere near as effective this year because people know his game, exactly what he's doing and without a half decent central midfielder to build attacks he's half useless. In all the key games Liverpool has lost Gerrards been all but anonymous. Put down last year as a fluke, a bunch of insanely lucky results with a lot of poor performances. This year is just last season without the luck, Gerrard was good for best part of a decade as a central midfielder and not a withdrawn striker.

I actually just burst out laughing at that. :D

Johnson was our best player at the start of the season and came through games against the likes of Chelsea, United, Villa and Spurs without making a mistake. He's just going through a bad spell and seems very low on confidence.

Mascherano will be a massive loss for this game. Not only is he the best tackler in the league he's also one of the best passers and I really hope Aquilani can step up and replace him.

Oi some of us have a day off on Boxing Day!

Villa have a stupid schedule just after Christmas - 27th away to Arsenal and then 29th home to Liverpool :/. Oh well at least its not the hardest second game we could have had :p...

ps3ud0
