Boxster - 6 months later

Cheers for the review eidolon.

I had a 2.7 987 boxster as a hire car when my s2k was in having work done. It was great fun and I would definately be happy with a 3.2s ... However

When I had it I met up with a mate who has a 997 c2s soft top with nearly every option. The boxster was proper poverty spec and it really made me realise how much difference it makes. Granted his 997 was over 80k however it made the boxster feel like my old puma.

That aside, great car and I'm glad your enjoying it

I really liked my Boxster and that was a 986 with crumby interior. It is quite simply one of the most rewarding cars to drive. The steering feel was always what got me. I'm no driving God but I could hustle that car round a twisty B road with incredible ease. I imagine the 987 is even better. Nice car Eidolon.

Brilliant cars. Under-rated by the clueless but properly enthusiasts know just how good they are.

But it's a poor mans Porsche, only driven by guests on Jeremy Kyle innit.

Great little cars, not really a "poor mans porsche"
get a shortshift kit fitted!
cruise is available as retro-fit (Tequipment)
Use it- so many of these don't get used and we end up replacing all the brakes on them due to corrosion.
keep an eye out for oil leaks- rear main seals are common, as well as corroded washers on the chain tensioner bolts.

enjoy it!

Every time I see this point made I cannot beleive how mind numbingly stupid it is. I mean seriously, why does it suprise you? Why does it even matter? How is it relevent?

Its like saying 'Well I drove a 3 Series the other day, it was excellent but then I parked next to a new 7 Series and well, it made it feel like a Trabant'.

Newsflash: Manufacturers flagship models are better and more expensive than the cheaper ones. Fancy that?

The Boxster is an excellent car and comparisons to the 911 are meaningless. It is not a 911. It is not meant to be a 911. It is a different type of car to a 911.

So obvious but needs quoting as so many people don't seem to get this simple fact.

Lovely motor btw, not my sort of thing but no denying it's a great car.

Easy Tiger.

Maybe I didnt phrase what I was trying to say clearly enough. It became apparent after being in the 911 just how poorly specced the Boxster I had was. This could have been sorted by someone being more aggressive on the options list (I'm talking about the quality of the stereo, lacking in leather trim pieces, no auto dimming mirror etc etc) and it wouldn't have felt out of place then.

For a driving experience, it was superb. But the 2.7 just didnt quite have enough power.

I understand his point. Although it could have been better made by comparing a bobby basic 987 with a fully specced one.

Some people actually prefer a more basic car. Sat nav, full leather, parking sensors, homelink, cruise....are they really necessary on a sports car?

Mine only has heated leather seats, PCM (no nav), Bose, aircon and 19" alloys as options. The only essentials in my mind (although Bose is arguable). Everyones ideal is different.

And it became apparent after being in a Honda Legenda just how poorly spcced your Honda S2000 is.

Get my point yet?

personally think both points of view are valid

(doesnt look like either of you are going to agree to differ though;))

or put it another way:

Walk into a nice two up two down house thats well cared for and you can think "oohhh wow what a lovely house"

walk out and pop a mile down the road and walk into a mansion and then you realise what you are "missing" in the two up two down

Both houses are lovely , you just dont notice the stuff missing until you see it infront of you ;)

What we're missing here is another analogy for a simple point.

How about you used to use cheap hookers riddled with disease for 20quid, and then try out a high-class escort service in a plush city-center apartment for 1K.

What a difference!!

;)

So does this mean a badly aligned Boxster has crabs?
