Boxster vs 911 - who is faster?

I've never understood these poor mans Porsche comments regarding the boxster. The boxster is a great car in its own right, especially the latest ones. Just wish I could afford one :p

I believe the 981 3.4 in the same engine as the base 991, just slightly down on bhp. I really do think the 981 S is the best 2 seater convertible for ~£60k available at the moment.

Correct!

This is why a lot of people fit GT3 throttlebodies, plenums and exhaust to the Boxsters/Caymans, results in 345-355BHP area.

So basically imagine the new Boxster S with 355BHP. :D

I mentioned to a friend that I the 987 3.4's are amazing VFM at the moment and he said "everyone will think you cut hair for a living"....coming from a man who drives a Panda 4x4. Would love to know where they got the stereotype from. As a second hand buy the 3.4's (sport edition in particular) are incredible VFM.

Im not so sure this is anything new. As you know I have owned both a Boxster 986S and also the 996 911. I have to say that on cam the boxster felt much quicker than the 911 does. It was more agile you felt like you could throw it about whereas the 911 feels more substantial.

I still say to this day just how good the boxster was, I would say that even in the early days there was bearly anything between the boxster S and the entry 911.

Indeed, but the thought of buying the lowest end saddens me. If I was going to go Porsche I would do it properly.

Invalid viewpoint is invalid.

The Boxster isn't aimed at the 911 market.

Another way of putting this is why did you buy the low end 350z, should have purchased a GTR.

How is buying the best Roadster on the planet not 'doing it properly'? The opinions people who don't own Porsche's have about Porsche's continue to confuse me.

It's shocking that these opinions still exist tbh. A lot of people discount an excellent vehicle purely because it's not a 911!

After all, there's people with E39 530i BMWs who have "owned" 335i BMWs that can't find a "better" car for under £20k ;)

Are you suggesting I never owned a 335i? :p You've implied this a few times in the last few months, so lets get it off your chest :p

If by "owned" you mean owned and "better" you mean "that I would prefer to own" then you are spot on ;)

What's the weight of these two cars?

Good terminal speeds on the quarter, but not great times. Still fast though :)

I think Boxster S is around 1300kg +/- 25kg and the 911 around 1350kg +/- 25kg.

A stock 997.1 C2S is circa 12.5s @ 114mph

Though other sites have tested the new Boxster S as low as 12.7s @ 114mph I believe too, manual again.

So both quite light then.

114mph crossing the quarter mile with 315bhp is very quick for the power..

Yeah with how fast these new ones are, you think the new 991 Turbo S PDK when it comes might be a 10s car out the box?

/Ignore me, the 997 Turbo S is already a 10s car. :o

Guess Porsche need to get the 991 Turbo S PDK sub 10s then! :D

I've never understood the neg about the Boxster, I think it's a stunning looking car.
