A council official's son who stabbed two burglars after catching them breaking into his mother's home was today charged with murdering one of them.

Omari Roberts, 23, was hailed a hero after tackling 17-year-old Tyler Juett and a 14-year-old accomplice during a struggle.

But yesterday he appeared in court accused of killing Juett and wounding the younger raider with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

Hmmm. What do you guys think?

The Crown Prosecution Service said it decided to charge him because it was believed he used 'excessive and gratuitous force' during the incident.

It is a bit excessive to kill someone over a burglary, unless of course they had weapons and he was acting in self defense, which doesn't seem to be the case.

That there is probably far more to the story than the Daily Fail has let on, and that as with any court case, the verdict is far more important than the opening.

Why would there be more to the story? According to some here it's in the public interest to be vindictive and always prosecute these cases, even in clear cases of self defence. You fight back in this country you should expect to be looking at a life sentence - no exceptions.

Meanwhile our fantastic justice system has decided that one of Baby P's killers doesn't deserve an indeterminate sentence after all and can be let out after 6 years. It really does make one despair

Well, murder is murder and there are plenty of ways to incapaciate a human being, or evade a human being without resorting to killing them.

For instance, hitting them with a blunt object rather than one that would kill them. Seeing a 14 year old should really prompt the response "maybe stabbing them is the wrong idea". Scare them with the knife, sure, but there's no real excuse for taking life into your own hands.

tough one. id like to think it was ok, and people wave their human rights as they break into your home, but then i cant help feel sorry for the little blighter that got killed, or rather his family.

i think the main question you have to ask is
"is it ever justifiable to take a life", in certain situations i think yes,
"if so to what extend is the justification", burgalry isnt enough

i dont think you get much time to think about it when you are confronted by two strangers in your own home.

Sure, but you get enough time to think 'if I insert this inside their flesh it's probably going to kill them'. You don't really do that unless you're a little bit evil. There's a difference between waving a knife at a 14 year old because you're intimidated and plunging it into his body.

Doesn't say whether they were armed, if they weren't then using a knife against them is unjustified, especially when they're so much younger. How did the 14 year old get injured anyway? Something wrong going on if a 23 year old thinks defending himself from a 14 year old with a knife is reasonable...

i have seen some very big 14 years old s that dont look their age

i dont think you stop to work out how old someone is when they are standing infront of you in your own property

i guess, you act first, think after
