Braces

retainers aren't that bad, better than train tracks. Now I'm only on wearing them at night and i have straight teeth. I had to wear mine 22hrs, ie only take out when eating - it seems silly to leave it in for eating. Its a great feeling when you dont have to wear them during the day anymore :D

Got my braces removed on 20th march, had this cool plastic gum shield-esque retainer that I had to wear for 2 weeks constant, except for eating, and now I only have to wear it at night. Couldn't even see it when it was on really, just had really shiny laminated looking teeth :p

yup same, pretty good like, just hate having to take it out to eat cause means when i'm out in public i don't eat cause it's a nasty sight watching someone take a retainer out lol.

22 here & looking into getting braces at some point really do need them. Also need them whitening/cleaned too

The last time i went to the dentist was quite a few years ago now so I dunno if I'm still on the NHS for it or not? Anyone have any idea? :S

Really cannot afford £3000 right now or even in a few months :/

I had a brace for 2 years and had lovely straight teeth. Only had the tops ones done even though the bottoms aren't great.

I was supposed to have my wisdon teeth removed and then I moved to wales and it never happened. On the left, my wisdom teeth have pushed one of my teeth behind the left front tooth and I now regularly bite chunks out of my tongue.

2 years of pain and my wisdom teeth have made them even worse.

I feel sorry for my daughter. She has only lost her two front teeth (6) and one of the adult teeth has come through and its almost at 90 degrees to where it should be  Thats going to take some pulling!

My teeth aren't perfect (they aren't exactly bad either) but i've got one annoying tooth out of place.

I should really get a brace and get it sorted but like you've said, i'm not far off 20 so it just seems a bit...........

yeaa i had braces when i was about 13/14 i had a removasble one, but being the kid i was i wore it for a while but wore off so got slapped with a perminent one which sorted my teeth out properly :D i still have one tooth on the bottom thats slightly out and its only done that since my wisdom teeth have come out but im sure i can live with it so not gunna go back for more, all i can say is get the braces in sooner rather than later :) go go go

Just to follow up my first post in the thread... I finally got it taken off this morning. :D

The brace got fitted the week after my 18th birthday, so I've had it on 19 months in total. I'd be lying if I said it didn't affect my self-esteem, but the results are so worth it.

To those who have a brace or those contemplating one, persevere and you'll get the result you want. :)

Wow dude, really happy for you. That's a great result!

My bottom teeth are lookign crooked and I'm 25 next year. I haven't been to the dentist for abotu 10 years and it's about time I sorted them out. it's going to be expensive and irritating but worth it I bet.

I hope you enjoy your new smile :)

Danke to you both^. :)

Just got my retainers this afternoon and bloody hell, I can hardly talk with the top one in. Should be fun for a while, haha. :p

^^ It's Lisa needs braces!

I've got a question for those with retainers. I've got a metal track type thing on the back of my teeth. The ortho called it a retainer but it obviously isn't going by what everyone else is saying. It can't be removed and I've had my braces out since I was 15/16ish and I still have this in.

Does anyone else have one of these things? If so has it been taken out? I don't really go to the dentist so I've not really been able to ask.

Sounds like the orthodontist thought you need permanent retention hence the bonded wire on the back of your teeth. It is still a retainer, just most ppl have removable ones for a few months or so then dont need it anymore.

Yes, I knew that but the OP is called Leeum. It's similar to "Lisa".

I wrote Leeum because the topic and similarity made me think of the reference so I changed it up to make it about the OP.

Ah, kay. My top one is broken off and my teeth haven't noticably changed and the last time I went to the dentist they never mentioned it. Will I ever get it removed?
TBH I don't notice it much anymore but it just seems a bit strange to still have it after 4/5 years.

Lol, I didn't realise that! It's been a long day :p

I have my braces on at the moment. I'm 17, had my braces (train tracks) for over two years and hopefully getting them off at the end of this month or October. Just looking in the mirror they have made such a difference!

My parents paid for mine however. Before the treatment started the waiting list was so long I wouldn't of got them free anyway. So it was either wait for 2 years and pay, or pay and get them on straight away.. Weird, as soon as we had started to pay the orthodontist became a bit more friendly ;)

Definitely worth it. After two years I can't tell I have got it on, and there's never any pain from them except from the occasional ulcer.
