Bradford Fire - The truth ?

I saw that article and yeah, it's certainly a very interesting read. Also worrying if the police never investigated that avenue

I'm a Bradford City fan have been all my life, I was 5 on that day.

Couple of things make me think this is unlikely

The stand was due to be knocked down the monday after the game, the insurance value would have been nil.

Why would someone carry out an insurance job on a stand full of people, especially as Stafford Heginbotham was in the stand that day too.

I hope this guy is giving his book profits to charity

I can't say I know a great deal about the fire but these are quite shocking revelations however after what we discovered from the Hillsborough report, it wouldn't be so shocking to find the coroner didn't do his job properly.

The Youtube video of it shows quite how aggressive and quickly the fire spread. It's quite a terrifying watch.

It does need looking at again. Even if it was deliberate, nobody is saying that people were injured and killed deliberately. The speed it took hold was incredible. I used to go Southend regularly and their main stand was similar. Really made you think.

The fire doors being locked was the biggest cause of the deaths though I believe.

Absolutely, sickening to watch. Have to wonder what's going through the fans minds on the pitch, celebrating and singing? Madness.

Slight tangent but this bit jumped out at me:
Bradford City had received three separate warnings about the potential fire risk, two from the Health and Safety Executive and another from the council, but did nothing

Don't know the timescales or nature of those 'warnings' but you'd like to think something could be done about official HSE warnings, i.e. clubs should be forced to mitigate the risk within a given timeframe or face sanctions. I suppose with the stand condemned and scheduled for demolition you could argue that is not relevant, but then on the flipside one could argue that if a stand is deemed unfit from a safety perpsective then it simply should not be used at all until the issue is rectified or it is replaced.

You'd have thought so but I guess these things weren't taken as seriously as they are now. Hillsborough didn't even have a valid safety certificate.

It was a day of celebration, just won the league and promotion, and at the start of the fire no-one had any idea how serious it was. I mean 4 mins from start until it was gutted. Its unthinkable really.

Today marks the 31st anniversary of that fateful day when 56 people died during Bradford City's game against Lincoln City on Saturday, 11 May 1985.
