Brake fluid

I've got a brake fluid question that isn't worth a thread so mini hi-jack alert...

I've got DOT5.1 in my car now and the brakes don't seem to have the same instant bite as they did on DOT4. Braking is as good and the pedal doesn't go like a block of wood when really giving it some grief but it seems to require a bit more travel to do so.

Is this a characteristic of DOT 5.1? There is also a good chance that its all in my head though :o

ah... 5.1 is apparently less viscous due to something to do with esp systems

a few people i know have said how it effects the brakes on older cars, but im not convinced how. it wont be compressing because its less viscous, but it may be slipping past the seals in the master etc

I've noticed this in mine, thinking of going for some super dot 4 or something along those lines, must be something to do with the braking system our car uses.

Some Super dot4's have a higher wet boiling point than a 5.1. Worth paying attention to as most of the fluid life will be operating as 'wet' rather than dry.
