Brake problem

another thing to consider is that there could be a sticking calliper or even glazed/naff pads hence insufficient

but without some investigation/diagnosis... were all just guessing.
 
I think that's a good suggestion Westy.

Failing that, why not part ex it for a newer car? Saves you some hassle.
 
You might also be able to find someone on an owner's club or similar who can help you out with either fitting or parts - alternatively find one being broken for parts on ebay or similar, then give the garage the part to fit, with the acknowledgement that you're not expecting them to warranty any fault with the part unless it has been fitted incorrectly?(I'm guessing they'd want this in writing too).
