Break entitlement at call centres.

Is it common to get two paid 15 min breaks?

My work is flexible on when you have your break, but its all unpaid and your expected to have a single half an hour to an hour break for lunch. People don't get off their screens for 4 hours at a time.

Call Centre work is generally 7.5 - 9 Hour shifts so a variation on 2 paid 15 minute breaks and 30 mins or 1 hr unpaid for lunch

Maximum of 2Hr 45mins according to Screen working regulations iirc.

In a normal shift you'll probably get either a 30 or 60min lunch a 2 15min breaks.

Stop posting on forums and taking breaks whenever you want and get back to the sodding phones! Workshy!

Most places will have some kinda rule about leaving your desk to make a cuppa being counted as your brake from the screen etc.
I know that's how it works here, we just get our lunch brake.

I've worked in a few IT call centres in my time and the break situation varies - in some places they are very lax and you get lots of breaks etc even massages!! Whereas some places you need to tell them how long you are in the toilet for. All depends!1

I have no idea - I haven't started yet. I should imagine you're allowed a bottle of water or something similar on your desk though.

In our place you log out of your phone when you need to **** and then log back in when you're back. As long as x amount of people are logged in you can do what you gotta do, but if it's hectic then you have to wait. If you're making a brew you better be making one for someone else as well though!

Thanks for that.

Does anyone here work within a call center environment? If so what sort of breaks do you get?

Cheers

Don't work in a 'Call Center' per say but work infront of 6 PC screens for 12 hours a shift. We get 2x 30 Mins and 2x 20 Mins alternating after 2.5hrs.

I work along side a call center department, we're kind of the same thing in that in our dept we actually chat in chat rooms and provide none account specific help and general conversation.

Both dept's get the same breaks: 2 x 15 mins and 1 x 30 mins, unpaid.

However, legally, it's 20 mins for each 6 hours if I remember correctly.

We used to have 'screen breaks', 5 mins every hour due to health and safety, however we had a manager come in who was a 'cost cutter' and along with overtime, decent hourly paid, paid breaks etc he got rid of them.

Cheers for all the info guys. Seems like it just vastly differs from company to company.

Does anyone here actually enjoy working in a call center? Or are they really as bad as people tend to make out?

Best job I had was in a call centre because the people there were awesome and we went out for food/drinks a lot. My new place is very formal etc and its a better job but not as much fun :)

I personally hated working in a British Gas call centre. I hated going there every morning and I hated being there. Time just seemed to drag. Managers only cared about call stats and how many sales you got but never about the quality of customer service you provided. Staff turnover was high and morale permanently low...

However, the social side was great! Quite a young workforce meant lots of nights out and always fresh birds to get stuck into.
