Green Flag any good?

What about Britannia Rescue?

Both seem better VFM (and quality) than RAC/AA

Cheers

I wish i still had RAC after today, think my insurance companies one was greenflag.......and they have left me stranded and not got back to me, yet rac were out with me pretty quick when my clutch went in april

Bump.. Looking a getting some breakdown cover myself (today!) as I've got to drive to London tommorow.

RAC the best then? £28 IIRC.

I have Tesco Finest cover which is actually provided by Green Flag. Includes home start and perks such as:

Transport for you and your vehicle and up to 7 others to a suitable repairer, your home address or original destination in the UK or a choice of one of the following 3 options:

* Hire car – either to return home or continue your journey
* The cost of alternative transport to get you to your destination
* Overnight bed and breakfast accommodation if waiting for repairs and provided you are 25 miles away from home or your destination.

Cover included
We will also pay for a single standard class rail ticket for you or your authorised driver to collect the vehicle

I paid £63. I have used the service once and they agreed to take my car home rather than to a garage so I could fix it on my drive :)

My brother is with Britannia, he has used them before and they recovered him quickly and towed him home no questions asked.

I'm with First Call (£32 roadside cover). Used them twice, first time they were with me in 20minutes and put me on the back of a truck and took me straight time. Second time was a flat battery (left my lights on :p ) and they got to me in 35mins and had me jump started soon after. Can't expect much more than that really.

When I broke down with the RAC in my parents car they left me stranded for 5hours in the middle of nowhere and eventually recovered me at midnight

I've got RAC via my Skoda Assist.
Just renewed and I've got 2yrs of full RAC membership including European cover etc for £149, so around £75 per year.

Not had the need to call on them yet, but I feel better knowing they are there.

I am with RAC.
Green Flag have a deservedly bad reputation.

You will probably get breakdown cover with your bank if you upgrade your account from a bsic one, can work out cost effective.

It depends what breakdown cover your after? I wanted a recovery service because i do all my own car repairs. The problem with this is if there was something i couldnt fix they would only take me to a garage of there choosing and i would have to pay what ever that garage asked!

However if you go with RAC or AA then they provide a MECHANIC to help repair the car on the side of the road, if they cant, they will take your car to a garage of your chosing for you

RAC have a good "no callout discount" plan which significantly reduces the cost if you don't call them out, similarly to insurance. I think they are no worse than anyone else out there for getting out to you in a timely fashion, so I've stuck with them year after year.

I get breakdown cover through my Lloyds bank and they use Greenflag, never had to use them yet though but from what everyone is saying about them I am not looking forward to when I ever have to use them! They used to supply everything inc. homestart but I got told by Lloyds the other day that they only supply the general breakdown cover and do not include home start anymore.

I got that discount after calling them out 2 times. :D

I found RAC to be good, they normally don't take long to get to me and do their best to sort out my problems at the road side.

I think part of the engine in my old 205 is still held together with cable ties. :D

With RAC through my bank (Barclays). Had to call them out 2 times in the past year. First time the car cut out in the fast lane of the motorway, got to the hard shoulder, waited for a few minutes and the car started again, then had an intermittant problem of just cutting out following that. Pulled up on side of motorway and called RAC, the guy came out and refused to tow me as the car would start (despite me telling him of the problems of cutting out) but he compromised by saying if i drove it to a garage of my choice he would follow behind incase i broke down again!

2nd time i called them out was when the alternator disintegrated on the car, managed to limp home to get the car on the drive. Phoned at 9am on a friday, eventually at 5pm i told them not to bother coming out to me. Called them again on the monday, after another wait of about an hour i called back and complained and got a guy within 10 minutes. He agreed to tow the car to a garage of my choice (after ringing his 'approved' garage, strange how he knew everyone on first name terms though... they quoted me £350 for a new alternator fitted), got towed to my mates garage which was 11 miles away, queue another argument as they are only supposed to tow a car up to 10 miles to a garage from a customers drive! New alternator and front discs/pads all done for £220.

Hmm thanks for the replys. I don't realy know what to do..

I live with my parents and work for them on the farm. Dad has an Advantage Gold card with Natwest that covers him for breakdowns with green flag but he isn't sure if it applies to me..

I've heard stories of people calling the AA from the roadside during a breakdown and setting up an account there and then.. have they stopped this now?

I've got RAC for the car and the bike, think my bike insurance has got breakdown cover on as well. Never had to use them yet though, so couldn't comment on their level of service.
