Breakdown cover

I guess with breakdown cover it is such an extremely rare event to ever need to use it, that frankly a small amount of convolution should you ever need it isnt that big of a deal (as long as the product ultimately covers you as nationwide does).

I must have covered over half a million miles over the last 14 years, and i can remember the only two times i had to call a breakdown service it is that unusual and infrequent. Thats driving some faily high mileage cars at times, too.

I have never had need to use it, but I went with AXA Assistance this year. Cost is £48.50 including cover at home and no need to pay for stuff at the roadside and claim back unlike some.

Hmm this is disappointing to hear. I have yet had need to use my cover with nationwide but the policy states that they should be relaying you anywhere you wish should they not fix locally.

Does anyone else have actual experience with claiming under the nationwide breakdown cover?

Wasn't this pointed out to you in one of the other breakdown threads? :S

I vaguely remember someone suggesting the Nationwide cover and then someone else posted up the T&C's which showed they would only recover you to a local garage.

It doesn't only recover to a local garage, it recovers anywhere you wish should they not fix the issue. His specific example shows when this service doesn't really work hence being disappointing to hear..

Indeed, if i'm in Edinburgh then the Nationwide would be fine as my local garage is 4 miles away, but 100 miles away isn't an option so I joined the AA for that. I still have cover with both, other perks from Nationwide also.

I have breakdown in many places at the moment. First with my cars warranty second with my bank and third with my insurance (Free). Never had to try them yet...

I have had cover with the RAC which was good but renewal time they up'd the price. Just cancelled and signed up again through Quidco etc.
