Hi all,

So the last thing to get right in my diet is my breakfast.

Currently I am having cereal(Good and Counted) with Almond Milk (unsweetened).

I am not much of a porridge fan but would be open to suggestions if a good unsweetened version was okay and I could add something to it to sweeten like honey.

Currently I am on a 1500 max diet including lots of veg, pulses, nuts, lean meats and fish so have that part fairly nailed.

Any suggestions?

I've been adding frozen summer fruits to my porridge in the mornings. I find I actually need very little to sweeten and make it taste more interesting. Also, just use normal porridge oats and add water and milk rather than the horrid pre-packaged just add water pots. It actually takes the same amount of time to make and doesn't look and taste like wallpaper paste!

My favourite breakfast is honey smoked mackerel and some eggs... not everyone's choice. I have this nearly every day.

Depends on what you enjoy - I've had anything from chicken, to beef, to noodles to porridge for breakfast! It's just a meal to me - so if you have time, cook yourself a meal! If you want an easy quick breakfast, eggs or porridge are hard to beat really. I don't really eat bread, but you don't have to exclude it if you like it (I just don't think it's particularly nutritional so I avoid it).

Or you could make a smoothie - yogurt, oats, mixed berries, peanut butter and milk/water/almond milk - that takes under a minute to prepare.

Can't go too wrong with some (no added sugar) muesli and a couple of pieces of fruit tbh.

I'd say you can't get much worse to be honest. Fast digesting carbs with a side of fast digesting carbs does not make for a sensible breakfast especially if you're trying to keep your intake down.

I'd be ravenous within an hour or 2 of eating something like that.

So what would be better?

What I have keeps me full until lunch: a big bowl of weetabix + two kinds of muesli + grape nuts (the cereal topper) + a big spoonful of shelled hempseed, and a banana/apple. The cereal bowlful is full of grains, protein (especially from the nuts and hemp), and a bit of fruit sugar.

I once had a steak, eggs, and tonnes of veg for brekkie. Best Breakfast ever! Shame it costs too much to have every day! :D Over 1000 calories of glory. Ah I miss my rugby playing days :( (and earning a lot of money!).

Thread won.

But seriously I eat breakfast at work so needs to be something happy being ambient or chilled in the fridge.

I might have to try porridge in the microwave, any particular brands worth a shout? simpler the better

I love fish, I reallly do. I tried having smoked makeral for breakfast once... ended up in the bin. For some reason I can't stomach fish for breakfast (bar Eggs royale). Quite jealous of you as it's nice and easy :(

Breakfast shouldn't be a difficult thing to fathom.

Oats and whey.

Porridge.

3 scrambled eggs on a slice of toast.

A few boiled eggs and some shake (if you need to eat on the go).

Protein bar.

Bacon and eggs.

Anything with decent protein and a bit of fat would be my first choice to get you through the morning. Saying that I function fine on two scoops of whey and oats.

Overnight oats are good - you can add nuts or other forms of protein. Or make a smoothie as I described above and take that into work in a container.

Can you not have breakfast before work? I understand that that's not possible for everyone, just curious/asking. :)

Yeah it's not to everyone's taste - and some mornings I don't feel like it so I don't have it. However, most of the time I don't mind. However as you say, it is dead easy, and with some eggs you've got a high calories, high protein, high fat (good fats) breakfast. You can bulk it out with some carbs by having some porridge too if you want (not with it... but as second part of the breakfast!!).

That's where Huel / Shakes can come in handy, if you have to eat at work, it's very easy to have one of those ready and still get decent macros/calories in.

Porridge, half an apple, some nuts and drizzle of honey.
Yoghurt with frozen fruit + nuts

Saying that I usually have 2 breakfasts because I wokr out in the morning. First break is something like chocolate muffin + banana, or bread and Jam + fruit juice, lots of simple carbs. Something that is easily digestible and raised blood sugar quickly for my workout, last thing I want is something sitting around in my stomach all morning. After the work out I'll have the porridge or yogurt, plenty of carbs to restock glycogen stores and some protein and fat to start muscle recovery.

if you don't do any exercise the some scrambled eggs etc. is a good bet.

Chocolate muffin isn't that easy to digest....

Probably depends on what you are used to but it is my go to food before every hard workout, they are just so yummy. The fat is a little high is the main issue to digestibility. Typically I'll eat about half the muffin with a banana, or just some homemade bread and jam.
