Breaking a padlock :D

another way would have been to hire a pipe freezer from a local diy-hire company. leave it on for a few minutes then hit the padlock with a hammer. it would shatter pretty easily

I still think that key would have come out if you froze the padlock (with pipe freeze) and caused the metal to shrink ever so slightly.

I feel cheated.

Technically, you haven't removed the padlock, or even broken it. I was expecting lots of epic attempts to break the padlock, whilst leaving the mild steel bit intact.
