Breaking Bad Season 4

It set up the rest of season perfect.

I hope not! That is, I hope they don't take the whole 10-episode season to resolve Walt's current "dilemma", as that would really muck up the pacing. So far the show moved at a really fast pace - plotlines that other shows would take a season to get through would get done and dusted in half an episode! In s3 there was only one episode that I'd describe as a "filler" (Kafkaesque, the one with the fly), and I hope they keep up the brutal, relentless pace this season too!

*spoilers*

Its not just his dilemma though. Its Mike's, Saul's, Jesse's, and Hank's dilemma now. All Hank wants to do is find out who Heisenberg is, he is obsessed with it. Its the only thing that will get him through rehab. Mike probably knows what will happen if he screws up and Jesse knows he is the most expendable person in the group. If Walt does die of Cancer, whats the use for Jesse being alive? Jesse knows this.

Not to mention all of Skyler's snooping about. Its just a matter of time before she finds out where Walt works and ends up in trouble. If Skyler can figure out where Walt is, then it can't be hard for someone else to do the same thing.

Episode two changed everything. Walt really screwed up and Jesse has gone off the deep end.... and Mike knows his time could be up with this new guy coming in.

@Robert1986 I know, you're probably right, it's probably the calm before the storm, just stretching out the tension before it all hits the fan. This season's Kafkaesque. But it came too early in the season, and after a year's waiting and a pretty tense first episode I wanted some action to break the tension. They'll have me gnawing my nails down to the knuckles in suspense with all this suspense! :)

What's Hank's obsession with the crystals all about? Is he trying to find out where the blue in Walt's meth is from?

DONE

Love this show <3

No way was this the fly episode. It had a lot of story init and plot progression. Why do people hate on Kafkaesque? Its one of my favorite episodes.

spoilers.

Mike probably knows when the time is right its either him or Gus. When he beat up Walt in the bar, it was probably just to let him know that he doesn't need him to do what he can do. Walt is more than capable of killing though.. He has so far killed 3 people.

Only thing I find weird is how Walt's finger prints have never been found on the gun he killed the two guys in "Half Measures". Also, what about the lab notes? Ep1 ended with a shot of the lab notes.

He is disabled because of Walt's meth. I'm guessing Hank's only reason to live now is to find out who Heisenberg is. Him buying up all the minerals is just a way to let us know how obsessed he is with it. Hank has to find out who Walt is in this episode... but when he does, its not like he can bust him. It would ruin him as a fed. How could he not know his brother in law is a cook?

We didn't actually see what happened with the gun at the end of Half Measure's as it ended with Walt telling Jesse to run. Can't remember if the next episode mentioned whether the Police had the gun did they?

SPOILERS (highlight to show)

Never thought of that, nice guess! Don't think so though, cause I kinda remember Hank and Gomez watching a video of Walt and Jesse stealing that barrel of liquid which they used to replace sudo, so they know that that's where the blue comes from.

I also don't think it's just a random obsession though, I'm sure there's some kind of method to his madness, he's too stubborn and dogged to have simply given up.

(I realized after posting that the following wasn't a spoiler so I unmarked it) I didn't mean it as an insult, I liked Kafkaesque! (I thought the title was a little redundant though cause the entire season 3 was quite kafkaesque...:p)

4 by my count - 1 on the very first episode, then the guy who survived the very first episode, then the last 2 in Half Measures. Maybe more? He did come within a hair's breadth of poisoning Tuco too!

Ep1 ended with a shot of the lab notes.
Ooh yes, I completely forgot about that file! Time to rewatch episode 1 I think! :D

If there's any mention of Walt in those lab notes then of course they'll realize who he is and bust him. What I think is more likely though is there'll be some hints that could lead someone who knows Walt to realize who he is - I don't think even Gaile would be careless enough to put people's names down in writing! And I think that someone will be Marie rather than him, because she's the one with the biggest incentive not to tell: Hank doesn't know Walt's paying for his medical bills.

EDIT: Does anyone know the colour code to spoiler-mark quotations?

Spoiler I guess (highlight etc)

I admire the dissection of Hank's current obsession. However, it's been documented within the show that they know how meth is made. Analysing minerals is not going to bring Hank even remotely close to figuring out the chemical composition and purity of Walt's product. Hell, Gus doesn't distribute it in New Mexico any more, and as stated they already know how they managed to get the colour of it.

I think the explanation is simpler than that - he's just needing distracted. He has a wife who is constantly reminding him of his situation and he has to live with that every day. Before, to escape, he made beer, but he can no longer do that. He's just got another thing to fuss over instead. He's not working and needs to keep his mind active. I'd be very surprised if there was more to it than that.

I'm un-subscribing from this thread. I'm waiting to stack a few episodes up before I start to watch.

OcUK really need the Spoiler tag on the forum.

Do we really need spoiler tags for previous seasons? If people haven't watched them they really shouldn't be reading this thread ;)

If that was about my post tbh I just spoiler-marked everything unthinkingly (and then came back to unmark something that wasn't a spoiler:p). I don't think we need to be too bothered about previous seasons personally. People concerned about spoilers should just use common sense. I avoided this thread for days until I was caught up.

I think I remember Mike saying he had to clean it up in full measure.

Not every character development is a major plot point though. That's the thing about complex characters - they have all kinds of quirks , oddities and moments of normality. It makes them more human. More relatable.
