Breastfeeding in restaurants

Breastfeeding what is this dark art you speak about???

Get the SMA out and put it away girls, no longer needed as we live in a 1st world country and it is the 21st century! :p

Fact is:-

My daughter would not breastfeed at all, I mean how could she? I had been there years before her so it was damaged or tarnished goods.

Move with the times girls ! ;)

Jono8 and Dasyad - I assume you like having a shroud over your head while you eat?

My daughter wouldn't feed if covered - she would just try and touch/lift the fabric, and fuss about it.
If you're saying it's ok to cover the baby, would it also be acceptable to cover the head of those easily offenced fellow diners who may complain?

Itchy - comparing sma to breastmilk is a bit like comparing value branded sausages to fillet steak.
there is absolutely nothing wrong with women choosing to formula feed their babies, obviously, but I doubt anyone would ask for those babies to be covered while they feed, so why should others?

It's a very weak (to say the least) argument that simply because we can synthesise breast milk, woman should "move with the times" and keep 'em away.

Breastfeeding also has extremely beneficial mental/emotional effects, which can be key in combating postpartum depression and similar issues with bonding between mother and child.

I have a feeling your sarcasm detectors may need some slight recalibration :p

You could be considerate to the mother by, you know, not looking if it offends you so much. If you are offended by someone breastfeeding you should maybe consider why this is, rather than expecting them to go somewhere else.
There is a difference between being offended by it and not wanting to see something when I'm trying to eat... I have never said I am offended by breast feeding, I just think that it should be done with more consideration for other people who don't want to see it being done, a view that I'm not alone in.

However the law dictates that my view (and others with similar views) is totally ignored because of one sided who shouts loudest (like most) 'equality' laws preventing discrimination against breast feeding in public.

Oh and theres nothing stopping mothers putting breast milk into a bottle to take with them...

Erm, a quick Google of "breastfeeding helps postpartum depression" will give you countless studied evidence.

I can't tell at this point if you're serious or just think you have me on the GD troll hook. I'll give you the benefit of the doubt for now. :p

As long as the women don't mind me looking at their boob(s) while they do it I don't care.

Seriously though, if I get a dirty look for glancing in their direction briefly then they can **** off.

Which ever side you fall on, "Natural" is a fallacy, it cannot be used in a debate about any subject because natural things are not inherently good or bad, it doesn't mean anything.

As for breastfeeding, just use common sense, don't do unhygienic things like breastfeeding in a swimming pool, or purposely exposing yourself in a deliberate attempt cause a public disturbance like the women in the daily mail articles.

If I was a few months old I'd probably be more concerned with eating. I have a relative who uses a cover to feed while she's out and her baby has no problem with it.

Regardless, what I'm saying is that it is an overreaction to "burst into tears" over being asked to use the shroud.

you can get a little cover to put over yourself to cover your modesty and the baby while he/she is feeding - wife used to do that.

I think if they dont cover their modesty then ya they need to do somewhere else if the owner is disturbed by it

This, I have no issue with it at all as long as they don't then go into one if they catch someone looking.

Can't have your cake and eat it!

So as far as I can tell...the arguments for breastfeeding are:

It's natural.

It makes mum/baby happy.

Ok...well how about me receiving some oral loving in the middle of a restaurant?

It's natural. (Fully organic, chemical free - no mess!)

It makes me happy. Which in turn makes the giver happy as I'm nicer to her.

It can be done discretely.

There is an abundance of information to back up that point of view. If you are that unaware of the issue here or so lacking in knowledge surrounding them then maybe it's best you stop posting and educate yourself.
