I'd be amazed if there's any truth in it at all.
Also true. You do have to wonder who the inside sources are sometimes.

Relative performance matters. If we're the fourth best, no matter how bad that is compared to the top three, we'll stay in fourth spot.
Read this, it explains it pretty well http://www.skysports.com/football/n...ampions-league-spot-under-threat-from-serie-a
As I said previously on this; it would be fantastic of the clubs, press, and 'some' fans could take the Europa League seriously.
How can they though when it's by design a second-rate competition?

So the FA Cup is a 2nd rate competition then?
To answer your question on how likely it is then. I'd say not very... not unless we continue to get worse and the Italians continue to get better.
If they perform better than English teams this year they will move above us in the rankings and we lose the 4th place spot, given how **** english teams are in Europe thats very likely.

It's still a big enough gap that it will likely take two seasons to catch us. But as I said earlier, they have only out performed us once in 5 seasons, thanks to Juve's run to the final.
depends on what you mean by "best" though - there are enough young up and coming players in England and Europe who aren't CL (or Europa) tied, and that's all the big clubs care about (as from the window/cup-tied perspective, the league position is irrelevant)....and a few teams may be out of the CL by that point anyway
Of course Jan isn't ideal, but given how critical the next year or two is for ongoing CL competition (and the possibility /even probability) that the EPL may lose the 4th spot, the windows are the ideal time to get one over on your direct competitors - to completely ignore that could well be more costly than spending £50+m on a few players.
