Britain's Defences

The Vanguard SSBN is a nuclear deterrent. For a deterrent to work it needs to be available for launch 24/7, so we have 4 subs, one on operations, one for refit, one resupply/in transit, and one for training/spare.

I would expect that the Vanguard would have an attack sub ghosting it as SSBN's are vulnerable to attack from enemy attack subs.

As for the rest, I would expect some to be deployed at various strategic area's in the worlds oceans and others in refit/resupply etc.

I think the deployment of the ssbn is one of the most gaurded secrets of the mod. If the enemy knows were they are it kinda defeats the idea. Who decides the targeting of these missles? Is us or do the americans have input in it?
We had one of the Vanguard in port a few years ago, it was kinda strange having strange having nuclear warheads 800m away from my flat:eek:

We do, no US involvement in the aiming of the nukes, the provide just the missile system, has have our own warheads and subs... we failed in the 80s at trying to create our own missiles.

Missile pointing is normally set by the government policy
