British Army Questions

I plan on enlisting next year and I have a few questions:

I am Scottish, would I be able to train on a Scottish base instead of going to England?
What is my wage, and whatare the average deductables (accommodation, etc)
And what would be my take-home pay.
Out of 10, how high would you rate the fitness level needed to become a soldier (10 being very high)

Thanks!

why do you want to become one, serve your masters who dont give a toss about you send you in to make a profit and you risk your life for them.

First of all..

You will may be waiting a long wait to get in now. You have to be good through selection because with the increase of applicants they can pick and choose who gets in.

Think you start on 16k after training. But the wage can vary depending what you go as.

By the way, im not in the army, but for your questions there is a great website called army careers

:(

If he is old enough to enlist then he is old enough to know the risks. His reasons are his own, don't poison his idea with your own hatred of government.

yeah there is scottish infantry regiments based in scotland afaik. takehome pay is 16k or there abouts after phase 1 training, infantry is higher payband on the website (most info is there)

fitness wise don't have to be super fit but you need a strong dertimination and to be able to push yourself well outside your comfort zone, 1.5 miles in 10;30 is good target and being able to do 5 pull ups although fitter are the better

probably take you like 6 months or so to get in so would bear that in mind and apply sooner the better as you can always delay parts of the app and start date to suit yourself

i did my app for rm at about xmas and the earliest start date i could have got was september so 9 months for me but the super fit people got in less and to be honest i didn't rush any parts of the app.

You haven't indicated what Regiment/Corps you'd like to join. This will have a bearing on where your basic and specialist training is carried out.

I have no idea what Privates get paid these days. When I left 5 years ago, I was paying around £175 a month for a very nice 3 bedroom semi-detached MSQ. You get free medical and free dental. Free gym and free adventure training. Oh, and free clothes :p

Your fitness level will need to be at varying levels depending upon what Regiment/Corps you'll be joining. Any Infantry unit will require a level of 10 on your scale, other units (Artillery/Engineers) will be a 9, everyone else will be an 8.

You do need to be fit. There's no getting around that so start now. Build up gradually, don't try and do too much too soon.

The point is i like the army but hate the policies created by the government.

The number of "Good" wars we have been in are few and far compared to the number of "Selfish" wars. We rarely commit the British Army if there is no profit in doing so in one way or another.

This is what you need. Pick it up from that big online book store:

Its fairly irelivant where you train, you wont be going home that often anyway. I trained just outside Edinburgh (1st phase) but only left camp twice and I'm from yorkshire. I got a bit more time off in 2nd phase, not much more so it really makes no odds where you train.
As others have said as the army reaches 100% manning they can afford to pick and choose. You may think that being super fit is the most important thing but its not (doesn't hurt though), research the job you want, have the right attitude and maturity and you'll be ok. If you've any Infantry specific questions I'm happy to answer them, if you're wanting to go elsewhere I'll leave it to someone else.

Your deductions from pay depend on the standard of your accomadation - some is so poor you pay around £1 but the top end z-type is quite a lot more - most soldiers prefere crap accom and more money. If you need specifics I'll look it up for you.

Please wind your neck in matt.

If the lad wants to serve in The British Army I personally wish him all the very best.

He is asking for advice and information and not the mind numbing anti-establishment drivel that drag these forums into a verbal war of attrition more often than not.

Sorry, but why on earth are you posting this question on a computing forum?
I think you need to do a little more research, speak to people, and... (...I hate to say it...) ... but get out more.
