Are British beaches on par with the mediteranian ones you get? The ones you get in Spain and Cyprus?
Or are they just some sort of gimmick only useful to the gulls?
Do people from abroad ever book a holiday to a British beach?

Reason I ask all these is because when I see a beach in britain, well...they look kinda shabby :p
Hear me out. Our beaches have huge stones in the sand. Where as the other beaches in the mediteranian, infact, beaches in France, just down the road have pure sand!

Or is it not as cracked up as i'm making?

Does anyone have any images of a British beach packed out with the sun that looks like the meditarnian?

Thanks :)

No comparison, although beaches in Cornwall look ok...depend on the weather though. :p

You can't lump all the beaches from one country together.

A lot of beaches in Scotland are beautiful. Soft, clean sand, clear water, dunes, rocks, cliffs, caves, and no people; I've also been to some that are nothing but a strip of jagedy shingle that seperates a main road and a large amount of effluent. I imagine the same goes for other countries.

I don't think someone from Spain would book a holiday in the UK if they were looking for a beach, just like we wouldn't go to the Costa Del Sol for sight seeing.

I think it just depends on the weather. We went to a lovely beach near Bath a few years back and it was absolutely boiling. We had a great time there.

I've been to a few beaches out here that have been mostly stoney and a bit shabby, of course there are some absolutely stunning beaches out here too, especially now it's starting to get VERY hot out here. But then there's also the tourist trap aspect of it too which isn't that nice.

Some beaches are nice, some not. I quite like the one just minutes from my front door..........

Incidentally a fair number of the beaches people rave on about are man made and the sand was brought in. Not to difficult to have a lovely beach that way ;)

shhhhhh :p

The west coast of Scotland has some beautiful clean beaches... the problem is normally finding a nice day to go and visit them! Ohh and that the water is never all that warm...

You are never going to get sea temps in england the same as those in the Med... and women very rarely sunbath topless over here :p

British beaches, LOL
they are for low class chavs, everyone else goes abroad to somewhere decent.
You are kidding surely? Most the holiday beach and beer destination recommendations I see on here are more chav ridden than the UK beaches. Or maybe we have a slightly lower ratio of chav/neds up here than where you are ;)

Pembrokeshire has some of the best looking beaches on the UK mainland imo :)
Increasingly clean, miles of sand sand sand, and the water is quite warm sometimes too (usually when its raining ). Oh and there are more than a few beaches that are popular with nude/topless sun-ho's, for the pervs ;)

Holkham beach in Norfolk is beautifully clean sand and relatively chav-free. In fact, it is pretty large and you don't see that many people even in the height of summer!

Only drawback is that it takes a few weeks of powerful sunshine to get the North Sea up to a bearable temperature
