British Grand Prix 2012, Silverstone - Race 9/20

Nexus it was obvious with the weather it was going to be iffy, you should have been there a good 2-3 hours before even if it was dry. They need more hard standing, but you didn't help yourself by trying to get in at that sort of time.

No, because I'm not going tomorrow :D[q/uote]

Well there you go...

And why is it high and mighty simply because I planned well, knowing that this was the biggest crowd they were ever expecting for a British GP, and accept that the issues caused by the weather aren't their fault?

It was the way you were coming off by suggesting people didn't know what they were doing because they weren't there when the car parks opened like you were.

Things were bad today because of freak weather and there was nothing they could do, so they are trying to avoid it happening again tomorrow, and are refunding anyone who either can't or doesn't even attempt to get in. It's all in all fairly decent of them I think. They could have said nothing, let you all get stuck tomorrow, and then refused refunds.

Nothing they could have done?
They could have put down wooden planks, boards and duck boards in the grass car parks for a start.

I also don't think they could have kept quiet about it...
Just look at Twitter and the fact it is a BBC headline!

Their only option now is to try and prevent people coming Saturday in an attempt to mean the damage is lessened for Saturday and that the news will be that things have eased. Come Sunday if everyone goes, it may just be like today was again.

...rant...

So its entirely their responsibility to do stuff to make your life easier?

I assume you knew about the bad weather over the last week too? Did you not think it might be better to leave a little earlier than you have done in the past?

A good 2-3 hours before on a Friday...? Are you missing the bit where I said I go every year I've never had to get there a good 2-3 hours before to make P1. Even still with the weather, I can accept missing P1, but not being able to see any event on the entire day.... come on.

What? Making it easier for me?
What are you talking about?

You are honestly saying you think its alright to take thousands of pounds for an event and not have any the infrastructure and management in place for people to actually go to the event.... right...

I would post my pictures too, but they are pretty much identical to Duke's :)

Has anyone seen if a photo of Perez getting a face full of puddle in P1 has materialised on the net yet?

Edit: never mind.

So... predictions for tomorrow then people? I'm hoping for a wet Quali to shake up the grid :D

Yep you'll need them :) Are you going on just the Sunday?

We are given tickets each year for the weekend so we pick what we want, this year we decided on a Sunday outing and considering what they've requested I'm happy to oblige. Only live a small distance from the track so it's no hassle whatever happens.

We'll drive in from Brackley, might skip round to cheat onto the A43 further up but usually it's never an issue when the traffic flow system is in place.

Nice pics :) - I hope not too many people are badly affected by this weather, the reports don't sound good. It is certainly going to be an entertaining race weekend!

Lol typical British ****. Silverstone really needs to get it's house in order.

Are they not smart enough to have contingency plans for bad weather?

Surely they are loose masses of money on all the refunds they need to give.

Got saturday tickets and was going to get train and bus up but not going to bother now, can get a refund. Had GA tickets so would spend hours getting there and then sit in the rain all day for maybe minimal running?

The situation is pathetic, dry or wet, ITS ENTERTAINMENT, nothing more or less. You can't predict car problems, if Hamilton's car doesn't work all Friday that is bad luck for the fans, when most of the drivers don't bother doing much running PURELY because tyres will cost them too much for the race, you have a massive problem that can be easily rectified to improve the day for all those who PAY TO SEE IT.

I'm a little caught in two minds about one thing though, if everyone gets extra tyres and can do loads of extra running in the wet, and assuming a wet race everyone would be better prepared for how long tyres might last, what level of rain cars can deal with, when to switch tyres. You get a better sports event that is as competitive as it should be, with less running, assuming poor weather on Sunday it will be more random, people pitting for tyres not knowing if they'll last and others going twice as long and being fine. Random can be entertaining but ultimately in a sports event, the teams shouldn't be hindered from doing as well as possible due to a stupid rule.

As for the track, come on, every other country would have lost the race by now. There has been zero professionalism over the way Silverstone reacts to problems. Sort out the parking with the concrete with holes in so grass can grow through, the investment every other track in the world has to put in and they do nothing. I'm also thinking to a degree they should simply sell less tickets and make a certain amount available, make it known that X amount will be available if the weather is great, a heck of a lot less if its peeing it down. That way people who really want tickets get them and likely get in, if 10k people who basically missed the day never went, it would have been better for everyone.

lack of toilets and food stands, with the money involved is just a joke.
