My understanding is that the FIA is saying that it is not permitted for a driver, while on the straight, to run another driver off the track (or as in Canada 2011, into the wall). Using the excuse of "I was sticking to the normal driving line", doesnt cut it. Neither does, "sorry Guv, I didnt see the other car".
As I stated before, the FIA appear to be saying "have respect for other drivers" and "no dirty driving". This has been in operation for decades now, so I can't see how this new rule (or should we call it a rule clarification), changes anything....which is a good thing, as I dislike new rules. If I had my way, I would do away with the Stewards' altogether. Great drivers of the past raced with minimal refereeing and I don't see why we need such harsh referees in 2012.
