British Grand Prix 2016, Silverstone - Race 10/21

Or the level of cheering if he lunches his freshest engine? Lunching one in practice and another in quali would be marvellous.

I still remember the cheer when Vettel's car broke down one year. It was louder than the cheer the winner got! Haha!

I was at Silverstone in 2014 when Rosberg broke down while in the lead, I remember the cheers from the grandstands rather well :p They were huge, especially when Hamilton drove past having taken the lead.

On another note, another Gearbox issue for Seb :(

Maybe they were aiming for Max, with him getting the Red Bull seat now, Kimi was just a fall back until next year.

To be fair though, if they've got Vettel as the No.1, they don't need another top driver, just somebody capable of finishing well up the points every race.

I doubt he's that bothered by the money really, if he was he wouldn't have gone off and done rallying, or Nascar, or the random ice racing and boat races he does.

I'm a former Kimi fan, but I'd like to see someone else in the Ferrari seat soon. One more year is enough I think.

As far as I know, he was paid by Ferrari to leave but probably paid not to join another team. They basically paid him to be their third driver and ran out his contract, so he went off to do Nascar... where it's not like he was being paid nothing. He also came back to F1 relatively quickly and rejoined a team that paid him to leave previously, ie he joined a team most other drivers wouldn't probably risk joining again after being somewhat screwed last time, money was the primary reason he joined them again IMHO.

Ferrari will probably want to be really wary of who gets their second seat after seeing the events unfolding at Mercedes. Chances are they will just get a solid number 2 so to speak.

Might as well keep kimi then? He's like Button in this regard, experienced, still fast-ish, already has a WDC so a bit calmer than a young hopeful looking to prove something.

Maybe Button still has more of his speed than Kimi, it's hard to say, Kimi has had his good races but also some poor ones, same as Button.

To be fair to Ferrari, I'm not sure who they could stick in their second seat right now. He's a character, but he will get on with his job and not cause any problems or upset those in the team. Any young drivers could be a total gamble.

Yeah he was paid by Ferrari. The fact that he carried on racing shows that he likes racing, not that he was doing it for the money since he already had an income. He could have just sat in a bar watching strippers.

Anyway. Someone else in the car would be good to freshen things up a bit.

They were paying him his F1 salary to race in other series until his contract ran out.
